How can I apply bright color to dark hair?

I have long and dark hair. I wanted vibrant purple chunks. I have bleached one piece with a 30 developer and the hair stayed brownish, especially towards the bottom. The manic panic I applied did not set fully into the hair. I bleached a second piece with 40 developer and tossed some on the initially bleached piece. The 40 took my hair lighter than the 30 and turned the partially purple strand an interesting light green. Still, when I applied the purple dye, the color was only bright in a few patches. I am following all the core directions for manic panic; using on dry hair, leaving on for a super long time, post rinsing with vinegar, and am not getting good results. After a couple of weeks I did an application of the new amplify formula of virgin snow to attempt to tone and then amplify ultra-violet and it came out ranging from a few spots of violet to a tealish hue and has now faded to green. Should I bleach again? Or put more color atop the green? Or abandon manic panic?

You need to bleach the strands of hair you wish to die purple. Make sure they actually turn blonde and no other colour. If they weren't blonde but a orange brownish colour, that would possibly be why they are not turning the purple you want. Follow the directions on the package if that helps. I think dark hair with purple strands would look good :) Haha good luck!
