Did Jesus have any evidence to support His claim of being God?

I guess some don't want Him to be the God of their everyday lives, so they call Him the Son of God. But the Trinity is real and should be excepted. Cuz without it our faith is kinda pointless....

The disciples performed miracles. Lazarus was resurrected before Jesus and many graves were opened and the dead raised to life along with Jesus, according to the Biblical accounts. Why is Jesus' miracles and Jesus' resurrection evidence of his divinity or equality with God in contrast to others'? (And indeed there is a difference!)

The book of John references his miracles as "signs" (evidence) of Jesus being who he said he was. According to John, Jesus said "ego eimi" (I am I AM) twice, shocking his audience at the claim that he was YHWH.

If Jesus is part of the Trinity which is three in one, that means He's also God. Just the idea of Him being a son to God and also being one with the Holy Spirit is too complicating. So God said that He's His son but only figuratively to make sense. God's divinity is highly sophisticated...

edgarr. Thumbs up! In 350 a.d., the Counsel of Nicea "declared" Jesus to be "of the same substance of God" only, when they were forced to make a decision on Christ's divinity. Most people have no knowledge of early church history. They don't question anything because they were taught to use their "faith" instead of their brains. They still believe Christmas is his actual birthday!

Lala, sometimes when the Bible translates two persons as being one, it means that the two agree - not that they are the same. Jesus said, in effect, ‘My Father and I are so close-knit that no one can take away the sheep from me, just as no one can take them away from my Father.’ It is much like a son saying to his father’s enemy, ‘If you attack my father, you attack me.’ No one would conclude that this son and his father were the same person. But all could perceive the strong bond of unity between them. Jesus and his Father, Jehovah God, are also “one” in the sense that they are in complete agreement as to intentions, standards, and values. There is absolutely no divinity here whatsoever!

Yes I do like it. It just seems to flow right when reading. And I really like the study part because it connects the dots for me, showing me how all of scripture really does go together. You know you've had quite a few great answers yourself!!
Report as
"You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I,'" (John 14:28).
Jesus said the Father was greater than He not because Jesus is not God, but because Jesus was also a man and as a man he was in a lower position. He was ". . . made for a little while lower than the angels . . ." (Heb. 2:9). Also in Phil. 2:5-8, it says that Jesus "emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men . . ."
Jesus has two natures. Jesus was not denying that He was God. He was merely acknowledging the fact that He was also a man. Jesus is both God and man. As a man, he was in a lesser position than the Father. He had added to Himself human nature (Col. 2:9). He became a man to die for people.
A comparison can be found in the marriage relationship. Biblically, a husband is greater in position and authority than his wife. But, he is no different in nature and he is not better than she. They share the same nature, being human, and they work together by love.
Report as
So, Jesus was not denying that He was God. He was simply acknowledging that He was also a man and as a man, he was subject to the laws of God 5so that He might redeem those who were under the law; namely, sinners (Gal. 4:4-5).

Jesus did many things that only God could do. He brought people back from the dead, he made the blind see, and he himself came back from the grave after three days. None of these miracles, that completely defied all natural laws, were done in secret. He did them in front of anywhere from dozens, to thousands of people. So yes, Jesus had more than enough evidence to support his claim that he and God were one. What's more is that there were over 300 prophecies made about Jesus over a time span of around 2,000 years; every single on of these became true, and many people were witness to these. Jesus was the son of God. He and God were one.

Jesus is never recorded in the Bible as saying the precise words, "I am God." That does not mean, however, that He did not proclaim that He is God. Take for example Jesus' words in John 10:30; "I and the Father are one." We need only to look at the Jews' reaction to His statement to know He was claiming to be God. They tried to stone Him for this very reason. ... you, a mere man, claim to be God? (John 10:33). The Jews understood exactly what Jesus was claiming-deity. Notice that Jesus does not deny His claim to be God. When Jesus declared, "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30), He was saying that He and the Father are of one nature and essence. John 8:58 is another example. Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am!"

Why do you keep bringing up the text format or translations? I understand that you don't believe in the Bible but that doesn't make it fake or translated wrong. I know one thing that the Quran teaches very different compared to the Torah or even the Old Testament. Its the only one out of the three that is significantly different, which brings up a lot of doubt concerning its accuracy. If you need answers concerning the translations of the text, do some research on this topic. But I'm sure that's not the reason why you ask....
Report as
let me give u an example.God gave commandments throught other holy books, then he sent new ones through the Quran.so y wud u follow the old books that dont count anymore?even in the other holy books, there are hints towards the Quran and the prophet. maybe not now because ppl have changed it.........btw, while the other holy books are like a story mostly and history, Quran teaches u a way of life along with the stories. of course its gonna be different.
Report as
The Bible isn't just a history book. It's a panoramic. The Old Testament is directly connected to the New Testament. There's also tons of proof that has been found that was in the Bible. And no, the Bible wasn't changed. Only the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses changed it and made it their own book of "life". Actually I just noticed that their "Bibles" were changed to look like the Quran. They also say that Jesus was a good man/prophet and they think He never died or rose. So the only thing left to say us that the Bible I read is the most accurate book in the world. Everything had been changed that revived from it.
Report as
Jesus never died and the bible has been changed .even the one u call "accurate."also, like u just said, the bible has been changed by some ppl and as i mentioned be4, the Quran has never been changed.there is only one version of it and thats how it'll always be. if the bible was the correct book, then God wud keep it safe from any changes just like He kept the Quran safe. either way, like i just said, even the bible u call "accurate" isnt accurate. i dont think its even worth arguing with ppl like you....
Report as
He did keep it safe. What are you talking about, man? It's been proven and they have found the original text and it's exactly word for word accurate. You need to keep up with your archeological findings. They found it and this case is settle even among atheists. At least scientist which know this topic.
Report as
i've never heard of that and even christian scholars are saying the Quran is more accurate. even if the bible is accurate like the original text as u said, once God send down the Quran, the bible doesnt count anymore. and even if one version of the bible is accurate like u said, u also said there are other versions that are not accurate and if the bible was the correct book, God would have kept it safe from that kind of thing.on the other hand, God said He wud keep the Quran safe and He has because there have been No changes from the original text. word to word, its exactly the same AND there is only ONE version of the Quran and thats not how the bible is.
Report as
and if your "accurate" bible says Jesus is Gods son or something like that, im willing to bet my life, it not the "accurate" one or the one exactly the same as the original text because God has no partners and no son, etc.and the correct , real, original bible never said Jesus is Gods son or something. Jesus knew he wasnt God son but His messenger and thats what he claimed to be. he also knew, just like all the prophets, that Prophet Mohammad wud come and it also said that in the bible. the original bible described prophet Mohammad and the ppl who believed in that original bible knew that so when prophet Mohammad came, they believed in him. so unless ur "accurate bible" mentions something about prophet Mohammad, its not the original bible.
Report as
and according to us, Jesus is not dead. so when he comes back, he will follow the sharia of prophet Mohammad. so the Quran is the most accurate book, not the bible.and y wud u follow the bible EVEN IF its the same as the original text when God sent another much better book to take its place, the Quran?

Report as
and i read in several places that christian scholars are also saying that truly, the Quran is in Gods own words.i believe the bible is fake.the one u guys have now.and there is just so much proof that Quran is Gods book and is accurate and correct and EXACTLY 100% SAME as the original text.open ur eyes and ur mind and u'll realize that.so EVEN IF the bible you have now(at least one version) is correct, which it isnt,STILL, why wud u believe in it when God replaced it with the Quran? and if the accurate bible you talk abt says that jesus is Gods son, then im 100% ITS NOT THE ORIGINAL one.and if it doesnt say anything abt prophet Mohammad, then it isnt the original bible. does it say anything abt him?u didnt answer my previous questions.

Believing that Jesus was the Son of God is not blind faith (that is, faith opposed to reason or without reason). True, we can't fully "see" from reason alone that Christ is the Son of God, but this does not make faith in such things unreasonable. True faith is super-rational (above reason), not irrational (against reason). In fact, it is the alternative expressions of Jesus' identity (that He was a a Liar, a Lunatic, or a Guru) that require blind faith. The truth of our faith hinges on the identity of Jesus Christ, who founded it. Was He who He said He was? When considering this question, 1) He was a liar, 2) He was a lunatic, 3) He was a guru, 4) He was Lord. Let me try to succinctly point out that He had to be God and Lord. To begin, Jesus clearly indicated that He was God and accepted the worship due God in several places in Scripture. He performed dozens of recorded miracles to substantiate His claim, including walking on water, feeding the five-thousand with just five loaves of bread and two fish, and raising people from the dead. (My answer continues in the comments)

In addition, ten of the twelve apostles died as martyrs for this belief in Jesus (Judas betrayed Jesus and hanged himself, and the apostle John died a natural death). The ten apostles who chose to be killed would not have seen Him prove His divinity by His miracles. Jesus cannot be a liar. He chose to die a brutal death and turned down offers of political power. A liar (or opportunist) would do neither. Jesus cannot be a lunatic or "crazy." His teachers were rational and His thinking was calculated and very clear. Jesus cannot be a "guru" (that is, a "New Age Master") trying to "raise our consciousness" and tell us we are all God. He flatly denied that we are all God. He made it very clear that He was without sin and we are not. He is from above, and we are from below.
Report as
So, it becmes very difficult to come up with an explanation other than Peter's: "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God" (Matthew 16:16). Assuming then that Jesus was God, we need to look for what He came to do. Scripture reveals that He came to die for our sins and establish a Church that would teach in His name when He went ot heaven.

Hope this helps! - ManOfKnowledge

He's God cuz of the miracles he performed, His ability to forgive sins, and His resurrection from the dead. No man has ever walked on this earth who spoke with such authority and wisdom as He did. A human would never go and die willingly on a cross (which was the worst capital punishment ever invented). And then He rose from the dead. Many don't believe that, but if a dead man is missing from a Roman-guarded tomb and was later seen by more than one hundred people, that probably means He's God.
Yes, Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, but for complicated reasons He's also God. Being part of the Trinity means that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one. I know, it's complicating like I said. I believe we humans aren't intellegent enough to understand God, so we don't....

Well, I think that the miracles Jesus performed showed that He was more than human, and the fact that He forgave people of their sins was amazing to the people of the time, because it would have been extreme blasphemy to do that if you were a regular person.

When it comes to the Holy Trinity, however, it is totally mysterious and beyond the grasp of the human mind. It's a very good thing to meditate upon, because pondering mysteries can take us to a higher plane of existence. Meditation is a higher form of prayer.

Strwbrygrl!! Show me anywhere in the Bible where Jesus said He was God. If Jesus is God, then WHO resurrected Jesus? Why is He at the right hand of God? Why did Jesus say "my Father is Greater than I" and "there is none good but one, and that is God"? Why does Jesus even call Him Father if Jesus IS God? I could go on and on. I know, John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
This is Before God spoke. Jesus was not Jesus until born in the flesh. He spoke of the "glory" He had with the Father Before the world was. All things were created through the spoken Word. Jesus was that Word. He was God before God spoke. He became the Word when God spoke. That Word was made manifest IN the Flesh as Jesus, as God's SON, not as God Himself. Jesus said Himself He was the Son of God, not God incarnated as Jesus. That's so much in the Christian myth category, leftovers from the old Roman Church. They were wrong about a lot of things. .
Oh hey, did you ask that because YOU couldn't find where it says Jesus claimed to be God? Well, to answer your question (finally), no, there is no evidence He ever claimed to be God.

Christianity states that Jesus Christ is God, "For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6), who left His glory to take on a human body to come to earth. Jesus existed in the form of God prior to taking human form.
"...Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." (Philippians 2:5-8)
The Bible says that Jesus was eternally with God and was God - the Creator of all things. "For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created by Him and for Him." (Colossians 1:16)
" In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." (John 1:1-3)
The Bible says that Jesus Christ has always been the same, not progressing to be a god: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever." (Hebrews 13:8)
The Bible states that Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God:
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
Jesus Himself indicate that He was eternal and not created:
?I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end... I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." (Revelation 22:13, 16)

1. The Apostle Thomas called Jesus God.
John 20:27-29: Then He [Jesus] said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing." And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!?'Jesus said to him, ?Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
2. The Apostle Peter called Jesus God.
2 Peter 1:1: "Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ"
3. The Apostle Paul called Jesus God.
Titus 2:12b-14: "..we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.'
4. The Apostle John called Jesus God.
John 1:1-3, 14: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." See verse 14 for confirmation that this reference to the "Word" is a reference to Jesus.
5. God the Father called Jesus God.
Hebrews 1:8: "But to the Son He [God the Father]says: 'Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your Kingdom.'"
6. Isaiah the Prophet said the Messiah would be God.
Isaiah 9:6: "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
God the Father, in the Old Testament, is also called "Mighty God" in Isaiah 10:21, the same title that can be ascribed to the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

This debate has been going on longer than Darwin's theory, however, none of the verses you quoted were where Jesus said He was God. Many of the verses you quoted did not say Jesus was God, only that He was called mighty God (El), or some other Hebrew or Greek variation. This debate will continue for centuries more, however, I would like to quote only one source: Revelation. Rev 3:21 To he who overcomes I will grant to sit WITH me in MY throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in HIS throne.
The Father promised His SON would become as He is, and Jesus promised we would become as He is, which is one with the Father. You did not dispute any of the verses put forth to you of what JESUS said. We can read tons of books by other people on what they think and we can agree or disagree. I choose to believe what Jesus said, not Charlie boy. We can take text out of context and make it fit what we believe or what we've been told to believe. I'll believe Jesus.
The Holy Trinity is a belief formed long after Christ and introduced to the world through the Roman Church centuries ago. Too much to reference, so look it up. It was not an early Christian belief. Jesus came not only as the Passover Lamb, but to teach, first to the Jews, who the True God is. Every word Jesus spoke was FROM the Father. The OT prophecies about the Messiah coming to earth, not God. God GAVE His Son all power as HE has, thus Christ and Jesus are one, as husband and wife are one. God did not come to Earth and die and then resurrect Himself.
Report as
Oops!! Correction!! God Gave His Son all power as He has, thus Christ and God are one.......
No wonder there are so many atheists in the world. Jesus didn't come to create a new religion. Judaism is the religion Jesus practiced, and they worship Jehovah, the Elohim, the El, etc. Saying that Jesus is God, makes Him a liar, because Jesus came to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God, His FATHER. Salvation comes through believing Jesus is "the SON of God". Look up those verses, they will far outnumber any comparison of Jesus as God Why would God say, "This is MY SON, in whom I am well pleased." Was God talking to Himself? Man has Ego, not God. Love you for loving God, but if we don't accept Jesus as God's son and think Jesus is God instead, we are a most miserable people.
John 10:34-36 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, You are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; Say ye of Him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, You blaspheme; because I said, I am the Son of God?
Jesus spoke what God told Him to speak. If Jesus is God, and not the Son of God, then you are making Jesus a liar. Jesus would have said, instead, "I am God." He didn't.
WE are gods, but that doesn't make us God any more than calling Jesus mighty God makes Him God. He is EQUAL to God, but not THE GOD.
Mar 12:32 And the scribe said unto Him, Well, Master, you have said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but He:
1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; AND one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by Him.
Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is ABOVE all, and through all, and in you all.

Ray, Jesus is called God's son because He was under the authority of God the Father. He left Heaven and came to this scummy earth and got His hands dirty. He is God's portion thus He's God. It's like this (I'll give you an everyday example): you know what Ford is, right? Or course. Lol. Well God is like a company which has different divisions that are made for different reasons. Ford's trucks are made for work, sports cars for racing, etc, etc.... Same here, God has three divisions, formally known as the Trinity. Each "division" has its own role to play. God the Father is the head of the "company", Jesus is the reconciliation and saviour, and the Holy Spirit is a messenger who gives gifts from God and also encourages his people. Hope that makes sense....
Report as
Jesus is not God's Son in the sense of a human father and a son. God did not get married and have a son. God did not mate with Mary and, together with her, produce a son. Jesus is God's Son in the sense that He is God made manifest in human form (John 1:1, 14). Jesus is God's Son in that He was conceived in Mary by the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:35 declares, "The angel answered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God." The Son of God is God. Jesus is God made manifest (John 1:1, 14).
Report as
The teaching of the Trinity does not contradict the fact that God raised Jesus from the dead. The Father and the Holy Spirit were still in heaven while Jesus was on the earth. Though one person of the Godhead had been crucified, the other two persons (the Father and the Holy Spirit) were still overseeing the universe. However, according to Jesus' own words, he did have the ability to resurrect himself. In John 10:17-18 Jesus said he had the authority to lay down his life, and the authority to take it up again. Jesus willingly laid down his life and shed his blood to atone for our sins (Romans 3:25; 1 John 2:2; 4:10) and for the sinful nature we inherited from Adam (Romans 5:15). As a result, we can now receive the righteousness of God by having faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 3:22).

This Mediator is the man Christ Jesus; not that he is a mere man, for he is truly and properly God; or that he is a Mediator only according to the human nature: it was proper indeed that he should be man, that he might have something to offer, and that he might be capable of obeying, suffering, and dying, and so of making satisfaction in the nature that had sinned; but then, had he not been God, he could not have drawn nigh to God on the behalf of men, and undertook for them, and much less have performed; nor would his blood, righteousness, and sacrifice, have been available to cleanse from sin, to procure the pardon of it, justify from it, make atonement for it, or make peace with God: the reason why he is particularly mentioned as man, is, with a view to the argument in hand, praying for all men; since he who is the Mediator between God and man, has assumed a nature which is common to them all: and this Mediator is said to be one, not so much in opposition to other mediators, angels or saints departed, though it is a truth, and stands full against them, but with respect to men; there is but one Mediator between God and all sorts of men, through whom both Jews and Gentiles have an access to God, and peace with him; and therefore prayer through this Mediator should be made for all. Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible
Report as
Nice try. First @RP: How can Jesus be "under" the authority of God if He is God? If Jesus is God, then He IS the authority. If God "left" Heave, then who was in charge of Heaven? What if nobody had even conceived of "the Trinity"? What foundation would you have to stand upon? The concept of the Trinity came long after Jesus. Jesus told us to "worship the Father" , not himself. We pray to Jesus as our intermediary to the Father. I excuse your analogy to the Ford Co., but God does not run Heaven or Earth as a company with different vice presidents, so to speak. How ofter does the Bible tell us, through various peoples, that God is ONE God, not three. When the Roman Church was divided over such disagreements, and then branched from Protestant to a diversity of denominations, many of these denominations carried certain beliefs with them, changing them to suit their own beliefs. Some believe it's a sin to dance, or drink alcohol, etc. It is the Holy Spirit of God, whom Christ sent to be our Comforter in His absence from Earth, to teach us Truth and to show us things to come. If God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all the same God, then why even distinguish their differences? God doesn't choose to manifest Himself as Jesus one day and then as the Holy Spirit the next. This is so similar to Hindu beliefs in multiple gods. This is exactly what some Christians are doing today by adhering to old doctrines about who is God. Jesus came to TEACH us who is the True God. I choose to believe Jesus, not man's interpretation of God. There is only ONE GOD, and, as Jesus taught us, that God is the God Jehovah, the I AM of Moses. There is only one God, not three gods as one.
Report as
@strbrygrl: Jesus is God's Son in the sense of a spiritual father and Human Mother, not the other way around with a human father. Jesus is not God made manifest in human form, but Jesus is the Word of God made manifest in human form. The Word of God is Truth, not lies. The Word, the "spoken" Word of God is the "glory of God" Jesus had before the world was, before He was born into the physical realm. That Power, the Word spoken of by God, which is total Truth, was IN Jesus and was Jesus, thus God's spoken Word. Jesus only spoke what the Father told Him to speak. Jesus said that it was the Father who sent Him here, not that Jesus was in Heaven as God and decided to manifest Himself on Earth, or, leave Heaven as RP suggested, die, resurrect Himself, go to Heaven perform the sprinkling of His own blood upon the altar before God, and then take His seat beside Himself, (at the right hand of Himself). I'm sorry, and no offense to anyone who believes differently, but that just makes no sense. Still, Jesus NEVER said He was God, or God come to Earth, or God manifested, etc. Jesus proclaimed Himself to be the Son of God, not God. Jesus never indicated or said, "I AM come down to earth as myself, but in human form, to proclaim to everyone that I am God". Also, even Satan tried to make Jesus doubt Himself as the Son of God by trying to make Jesus prove Himself to BE the Son of God. "If you are the Son of God, then ....", not "If you are God manifested in human form, then ....". Doesn't anybody know what the word "Son" means? Jesus and the Father are one, not ONE GOD. Just as husband and wife are one flesh, so Jesus and the Father are one, but not the same entity. How can we have the righteousness of God by having faith in His Son if Jesus is God? Why would God tell humanity to have faith in HIS SON? instead of saying something like, "Have faith that I am the Son and believe that I am the Son of Myself"?
Report as
@SG: also, who do you think Jesus was obeying? The Father, of course. Jesus never said He was here to fulfill His own desire, but the desire of His Father. God gave Jesus all power, so one cannot say that Jesus could not have drawn humanity near to God if He Wasn't God. That's like saying God never gave Jesus any authority or power, again, making Jesus a liar. Jesus told us that what He spoke came directly FROM the Father, not of Himself. John 7:16-17 Jesus answered them, and said, "My doctrine is not mine, but His that sent me. If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." Now, tell me, why would God say such a thing? Even yourself and others, still refer to Jesus and God as two separate entities. How can Jesus, if He is God, be a Mediator between Himself and Himself? How can God resurrect Himself if He died on the cross? Dead is dead. To say that God died on the cross as the man Jesus is to say God died. How can any god resurrect Himself if He is dead? Why would Jesus even call God His Father if He was indeed that very same God? Everyone is still quoting other "men' with reference to this.Plus, consider this: Were we not told that not everyone who confesses God will enter the kingdom of heaven? Do you think that the majority of Christians, who believe in more than one "Manifestation" of God are all correct? Were we not told that there are few who enter the kingdom of God? So why follow the majority of people if we were warned that the majority just didn't get it right? I choose to go with those few who follow a very narrow path, not a wide one where everyone else is going. I love you all for being so zealous, but truly think about what you believe and why you believe it. Is it because that's the way Gill expressed it? Sorry, I choose to believe the way Jesus expressed it: Joh 10:33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God
Report as
John 10:33-36 The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone you, but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, MAKE YOURSELF GOD"..
Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, I said, 'You are gods'?
If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; do you say of Him whom the Father has sanctified, and sent into the world, 'You blaspheme', because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?" Was not Jesus correcting the Jews by their misinterpretation of what He was saying and thinking that Jesus was proclaiming to BE God? That saying He was the Son of God was not saying that He WAS God but that the Father was IN Him and HE was IN the Father and they are one? (NOT one and the same.)
Love and Peace to all.
P.S. Where is 666? Are you skipping out on this? Love you too, buddy.

Oh yeah, why still say God is "three persons" if they are all the same God? You still distinguish them as three separate entities. Sounds like a contradiction to me.

Jesus NEVER denies the charge that he was claiming to be equal with God or that he was God. The whole section begins and ends with the identical thought: "I and the Father are one" v30 and "the Father is in Me, and I in the Father" v38. Each time he said this, the Jews wanted to stone him. In fact, Ps 82 may have sent them into deep thought so when He made the proclamation a second time, they concluded, "He's blasphemed again!" This proves the Arian interpretation wrong because it assumes the Jews were initially wrong about Jesus making Himself out to be God. The fact that Jesus then makes his argument from Ps 82, yet they still wanted to stone him, proves he was not denying the charge of being God, but rather reinforcing it. After all, the judges of Ps 82 performed no miracles like Jesus was which implies He had a more valid claim to be called God then they! I'll try to get to the other questions later.
Report as
Before Jesus was crucified, He was asked to tell them plainly if He was indeed the Messiah, the Son of God, not if He was God.
John 14:28 (Jesus) "You have heard how I said unto you, 'I go away, and come again unto you'. If you loved me, you would rejoice, because I said, 'I go unto the Father': for my Father is greater than I."
Jesus was not going to Himself, but His Father. Why would He say He was going TO the Father if He IS the Father? Makes no sense.
Jesus did not claim to be God. Are you siding with the Jews who tried to stone Jesus because they also believed He was claiming to BE God? Jesus only confessed to being God's Son, not God. Nor did the judges referred to in Psalm 82 ever claim to be God, so where did that come from? You said because they performed no miracles makes Jesus' claim to be God more valid than theirs. Sorry, don't get it. They were not claiming to be God, instead, God was telling them they were gods and we are all the children of the Most High. This is why Jesus quoted Psalm 82, to inform the Jews and everyone listening, that we are gods. The Pharisees claimed to be so knowledgeable about the Scriptures, yet did not understand what God meant when He said this. Jesus had to explain it to them, saying, "Did I not say, 'You are gods. .."
Every word Jesus spoke came from the Father, not Jesus.
When Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father, Jesus replied, (John 14:9-10) "Have I been so long time with you, and yet you have not known me, Philip? He that has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say then, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that DWELLS IN me, He does the works." Jesus never took credit, but gave the glory to God the Father - who was within Him, just as He is within us.

John 10:29-30 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.

When God said we are gods, and Jesus repeated it later, does that make US equal to God? No. Why do you think Jesus said such a thing to a crowd of people ready to kill Him because they assumed He was claiming to BE God? We are all gods, but not God. Jesus also told us we would do greater things than He did. Does that make us better than Him? We will become one with Jesus just as Jesus has become one with the Father. We will sit WITH Jesus in His throne, just as Jesus sits with God in His throne. Now, we know that two people cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Thus, Jesus sits at the right hand of God, but with the same authority as God, just as we will have the same authority as Jesus once we are transformed into the spiritual consciousness at one with Jesus and God.Revelation 3:21 To he that overcomes I will grant to sit WITH me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne." WE ARE GODS, so says God, so says Jesus, who was the Word of God in the flesh, so say I. So, once we inherit our estate from our heavenly Father, and live as immortal beings with Him and Christ and the Bride in a spiritual consciousness right here on Earth, will that mean that God no longer is God? If Jesus is God, and we become one with Him and the Father, will we all be as God, (in other words)? To profess Jesus is God is to say God will no longer be THE God once we are all one. God is within us, as is His Kingdom (which means consciously), not somewhere "up there". God will dwell among us, He will be our God and we will be His people, inheriting the same authority as Jesus the Christ (sitting in the same throne).
1 John 3:1-2 Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. Therefore the world does not know us because it did not know Him.Beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we will be: but we know that when He will appear WE will be LIKE Him because we will see Him as He is.

Ray, when God touches people and becomes one of us he has to leave His authority in Heaven. That's why He's under His own authority. I know, it's hard to understand. But that's just how He operates.... He's way more advance than we can even imagine.
Report as
Where did you learn that from? When does God ever leave His authority in Heaven, and with whom does He leave it? When does God ever become "one of us"? God sends His angels so He doesn't have to "leave" His authority. God is not powerful enough to "touch" us without having to leave His authority in Heaven? That seems to make God less of a God. I'm sure you must be referring to how God was able to resurrect Himself. God is all and in all, not somewhere else doing His business, like resurrecting Himself. That makes no sense and I'm so glad you can understand how "advanced" God is and how He operates. Where in the BIBLE does it ever say God left His authority in Heaven to come to earth to touch or become one of us?

"For I have *come down from heaven* not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me."
John 6:38
And....
"For the bread of God is the *one* who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
John 6:33
He has the authority when He is on earth as well as in Heaven.

Just because He came from Heaven doesn't prove He was God. Angels come from heaven, also. The bread OF God is Jesus, which bread is the Word of Truth. A king does not say, "I think I'll make myself king."
Mat 28:18 Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All power is GIVEN unto me in heaven and in earth." Jesus did not give Himself this power, but His Father God granted it to Him. It was God who said He would put all the enemies of Jesus at His feet, and make them His footstool. How can one receive anything unless it is "given" to him from someone else? To give implies a giver and a receiver. Who else would have the authority to give Jesus all power? Only a higher being. Who else could resurrect Jesus from the dead? Only God and no other. God did not come down from Heaven, but "SENT His only begotten Son". This is why Jesus is not just a man, because He was born of Spirit and blood. The blood to sprinkle as a sacrifice before GOD, not before Himself. Jesus is now the High Priest in Heaven, who performed the last sacrifice with His own blood for the atonement of our sins upon the altar before God. Why would Jesus be the sacrificial Lamb OF God and give Himself to atone for us if He is God? If Jesus is God, there would be no need for Jesus or any sacrifice. God would just forgive all humanity forever with just a spoken Word. It is the fact that it was His Son whom He sent into the world that gives credence to the whole theme of His compassion and love for us, that He would sacrifice His only Son, not Himself.
I could lay down my life for you and that might mean something, but it's my life. Or, I could lay down my only daughter's life for you. Which would be the greater sacrifice? Think about it. Which would be the greater proof of my love for you? Why do you think Jesus begged THE Father to take the cup AWAY if He was God? If Jesus is God, then He would have had no hesitation about going to the cross nor would He have sweat tears of blood or been praying to Himself for it all to pass.

Why were all the prophecies of a Messiah to come not of God coming to Earth? They would have read totally different. The whole Bible, not just NT, proclaims that a Savior would be born, not that God would appear someday in the form of a man but nobody is going to know who He really is; that God will leave Heaven and sacrifice Himself upon a cross and then resurrect Himself and go back to Heaven, then perform the sacrifice with His own blood, not the blood of His only Son, but of HImself, and then sits at the right hand of HImself. It just blows the whole thing apart if Jesus is God. Why are they always referred to as Father AND Son? The Bible is Truth, and the Bible says GOD sent His Son, not He came Himself. This was done long before mankind conceived the idea that three is better than one [God]. Why would we even baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit instead of in the name of God who came to earth . . . . ? The whole Bible infers they are separate entities, not the same. Our Bible is Truth and does not read or reveal or teach about three gods being the same one God. Research the history of the Trinity and you will discover it was manufactured by a man and incorporated into the old Roman Church belief system. It did not come as a dream or vision or revelation from God, but from the minds of men. I have only one thing left to quote and it goes to everyone who contributed to this discussion. In the end, the mystery of God will be revealed, as it is told in Rev. 10:7. My quote is this:
1 John 3:24 This is His commandment: We should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment. He who keeps His commandments dwells in Him, and He in him, by this we know that He abides in us by the Spirit which He has given us.
God would not be telling us to believe on the name of His Son if He is Jesus. God is not Jesus and there are no prophecies of God coming to earth as Jesus. Why did Jesus cry out, "My God, why have You forsaken me?"

The resurrection is proof enough. Only God Himself, the creator of life, could concur the grave.

Jesus did not claim to be god. He is the SON of the almighty god whose name is JEHOVAH (Psalms 83:18).

Jesus NEVER SAID he is GOD.HE just said you follow him and you can go to heaven. But think of it,why would he said that?Even if you have killed somebody or rape someone but you still believe in Jesus will you still go to heaven?IF this is justice then everyone will do more crimes and still go to heaven. And ask yourself what is the meaning of GOD to you.

I do believe that Jesus is God. John 10:30; "I and the Father are one."Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am!" God will forgive a person if they ask and mean it even a murderer. Once we believe in Jesus we are to be different and not go on sinning. Any person can claim to be a Christian, but is there a change in their lives? If not, maybe they were never saved in the first place. God took on human flesh to be like us, to save us. Only God could do that.

Yes we need laws. "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?" Romans 6:1-2 And believe me I'm neither cute or innocent.

and one more think how much do you know about GOD?Did he name his religious?Do you ever see GOD?you are so blindly believer.

God lives in our lives as believers. If you saw Him you'll prolly melt like a stick of butter. And He's not part of a religion. Christianity is NOT a religion. It's the Truth which is a true Christian's duty to proclaim. You ask why? Cuz we have love from above toward people and we don't want to see y'all in hell. But many-especially these days-think they got all smart and figure my God out. You're nothing but a fool if you think that! Fear God and He'll bless you.

He said that he was the Son of God and the Son of Man. He performed miracles and preached the gospel.

It is clearly written in the Bible that Jesus is the Son of God. It goes without saying that the bible is the word of God....
