Why are people so judgemental and hypocritical of others appearances and/or beliefs?

I don't understand why people have to judge each other and "weigh" each other out.

Because they don't measure up themselves, feel inferior to others. And they judge others to make themselves feel better.

Yup. Usually what we say about others says more about ourselves. Usually a projection of how we feel inside. I've never seen people with a love for themselves and good self esteem put another down.

In my view, people are very judgmental of other people's beliefs and appearances, because they would like to think that what they believe in is only what is right. Human beings have always been competitors and it also happens in views and beliefs of a person. Most people also judge others by their outward appearance as is the way in society. The media has portrayed a certain look that people should consider beautiful and most people do not take the time to get to know someone.

Because we like to justify our own beliefs and appearances by negating those of others.

Swamped. Finals week. Got one paper to finish tonight and two more next week. Procrastination is an intentional art form of preparation, seriously. Being uptight and worrying about papers produces poor papers. Working intently after relaxing procrastination produces A-worthy papers. So who knows how much I'll be interacting this week :)

I made myself work super hard and get it done before the weekend (my English paper) because we have the may fair and my brother is in the may parade in my town too, and I didn't want to miss out. But I have finals next week too. So nervous! Good luck with yours!

It's probably been taught to them. Most people aren't comfortable and are insecure about their beliefs. They need others to support their beliefs so they try and force their beliefs upon others. It's rather pointless.

Because of pride. Once we compare ourselves to others or judge each other, we are guilty of having pride.
