My window broke and it isgoing to be a few days till I can fix it, I put plastic up will it keep heat out I live where it is very hot

If you can cover the actual break in the window with cardboard and/or duct tape, and then put the plastic on over the window frame, you will be creating a "dead air" space which will keep the heat out much more effectively than either the cardboard or the plastic alone. "Dead air" is the basic principle behind most insulation.

It all depends on what material the plastic is made of or how the air cells in the material are packed. Closed cell air bubbles act as an excellent insulator, so they will keep the heat out, but some plastics will let the heat in.
