If he's not in jail, and he saw the judge today, then one of two things happened. Either he was allowed to bond out (by posting bond or on his own recognizance) or he was transferred to another holding facility to await arraignment on charges in another jurisdiction.
In my opinion, he or she will be in the police cell. Here are some of the things you are not required to do if you happen to get arrested by the police. Do not talk, do not run, never resist arrest as well as do not talk badly to the police.
