{Please help. Please read description. Difficult question to answer.} After sex, how long will it take until I'm pregnant?

I'll say what I know. I know that you can know when you're pregnant when you're missing your period. But I take medication for personal reasons and I need to take them everyday for the rest of my life. So I don't get my period every month because it comes when it wants to. I know it will kill the baby if I still take meds so I'm going to stop because I just had sex but I want to know when is a good time to buy a pregnancy test? So if I'm not pregnant that would be sad, but I would continue taking my medication. Please help, I really need to know this. Thank you for any useful help.

You should talk to your doctor before trying to conceive. They generally have other meds you can take during pregnancy. If a pregnancy test is negative 16 days after sex, you most likely are not pregnant. If you were ovulating at the time of intercourse, you have a 25% chance of being pregnant. If you were not ovulating, your chance are slimmer. I recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" to learn more and ovulation and temperature charting. If you chart your temperature properly, no ovulation or pregnancy tests are necessary.

edited to add: if there is a pregnancy safe version of your meds, your doctor will likely want you to start taking them before you try to conceive.
