Hi rkgirl! This will probably sound as goofy as they come (it's an old trucker trick)...sit on a shoe. I knew this old trucker who would grab an extra shoe from the bunk and sit on it...if you're uncomfortable, you're not likely to be sleepy. Honestly...I'm not much for sitting on a shoe (I don't have a wide assortment anyways). I generally go with coffee, getting out of my truck and doing a few quick laps around the vehicle, splashing cold water on my face...and the best cure...talking to my BFF (or special guy) on the phone...that's the reason I finally bought one of those fancy hands free thingamaboppers. Another helpful thing is to munch on fresh fruit...works quite well & doesn't mess with our "girlish figures"!! Good luck!!
Good music, don't be warm or comfortable, and don't lay down. Also try doing things that'll keep ur blood moving like you're active (bouncing feet, walk around...etc,) have some caffeine too, it'll block ur sleep receptors or at least should
Practice singing! Try and learn all the lyrics to songs you have but don't know very well. I also wear tons of hair ties on my wrists and arms (which I get made fun for) When I'm tired or bored I close my fist a tight as I can so my viens protrude on my wrist and I pull back a hair tie and snap it. It hurts but its kind of entertaining to see all the little marks it leaves. My friend yells at me saying I shouldn't but I think it's fun.
As this cookie fellow has suggested, chewing or crunching something is a good way to stay awake. Energy drinks will wake you up in spurts, but saps your energy when it wears off (hence, the "crashing" term). It got me through college. Some of my colleagues have suggested blasting Mariachi music. I'm not sure how well you will be able to concentrate, but you will surely stay awake. Apparently, it works...they are doctors, now...
