Can you shrink? My doctor is telling me that I and now 5'5 when I've been 5'6 for 30 years.

It has nothing to do with worn out muscles. These are young girls who don't know what they're talking about. I suggest that you talk to your doctor about it and get a bone density scan to find out if you have osteoporosis. Osteoporosis causes bone loss, and you can lose inches off of your height from it. You need to know if you have it so you can get treated. Don't stress out about it, though. Many, many women have it, I have it, and you can't die from it.

Also I flagged this because "These are young girls who don't know what they're talking about" u do not know how old we are

Okay, so I don't know how old you are-- I just assumed from the misspelled words that you were a high school kid. But I do know that your answer is wrong.

You didn't say anything about bone loss in your answer. You said it was from muscles wearing out, and that makes us shrink and that bones don't change. That is three wrong answers in one!. If this is what your doctor told you, I would get a new doctor.

I"m only 32 so it's probably not osteoporosis .

It might not be osteoporosis, but it could be. If I were you, I would get a bone density scan to find out. If you don't have it, you will have the scan to use as a baseline during the coming years.

While I said you can't die of osteoporosis, you can get weak, brittle bones that break at the drop of a hat. I'm not very old either (although not as young as you), and I have it. I think it started in me in my late thirties, and was accelerated when I had a long course of chemotherapy. It won't hurt to get a scan, just to find out. Good luck!

yes it is very possible because as you get older your muscles start to ware out and they shrink so that means that your body does also, but your bones stay the same size...crazy I know but that is what my doctor told my grandma(:

Your doctor told your grandma a fib. Our muscles don't shrink, but our bones can have osteoporosis, and this causes bone loss, which can cause us to lose inches off of our height. I say "we" and "us" because this is something that happens to women about ten times more often that it happens to men.

Yes this is possible. Your muscles ware out and therefore shrink. Your bones don't change though. Do not worry about it either though, everyone shrinks at one point. My doctor has told me this along with other people in my family. :D

Could be osteoporosis, bad posture, curvature of the spine. Have you had a bone density test?
