How do you solve this

5n - 12 = 53

Report as

The answer to the equation in this case is n=8.2.To solve for 5n-12=53, you need to group the like terms together. It will then be 5n=53-12, which will be 5n=41 and you divide both sides by 5.

I look back at this, and just can't see how I got wrong. If you plug in 13 you get 53. If you plug in 8.2 you get 29.

n=13 5n-12=53 then add both sides so 5n=65 then divide each by 5. and 65/5 is 13.
