If you are having it done with a gun you don't need to numb it, it really doesn't hurt all that bad when you do it with a gun, it happens so fast that it just feels like a hard pinch, then it will feel hot for an hour or so and be sore for a few days, piercing the cartilage hurts more though.
You can do it yourself!! Just numb it with an ice cube on both sides and make sure you have antiseptic to clean them EVERY DAY so they don't get infected, and wait 6-8 weeks to take them out, also no matter how bad it hurts, twist the earrings a lot

I pierced my friends second holes yesterday and shes doing mine later!!
We did: 1) use a numbing cream like 'germoline' which might help a little but don't use ice - it tightness the skin and makes it harder to pierce...
2) mark where you want to pierce
3) use an antibacterial/antiseptic spray and put it on the earring, ear and hands of the piercer
4) Take a deep breath and push the earring through your ear hard and fast, this will hurt and you have to push it quite hard but it's sooo worth it...the last bit hurts the worst and you'll hear a click
5) Put the back on the earring and then spray the ear with the antibacterial/antiseptic spray again
It will be sore while your piercing but will go away quite soon after and it will hurt less as well if your listening to music or talking to someone or squeezing something..you'll be fine though - it's over really quickly xxx
I really want to pierce my cartilage but I'm really scared it's gonna hurt heaps!! I tried ice but I still could slightly feel it before it even went in. Then I tried Deep Heat because I thought I might pay more attention to the warmth of it but nothing works!! What could I use? Someone please help!!!
don't use ice what ever you do.the best way to do it get some numbing cream and put that on then get some one else to do it because it will be quicker then doing it your self this worked for me so hope it works for you
