Ponies are definitely good pets. They are beautiful to look at, which is what pets should be. They are lovable too. Not forgetting that they are useful in that, you can enjoy a ride at the back of a pony.
I would not get a pony unless you are into horseback riding because of all of the work it requires. If you are just looking for a pretty pet and like horses, try a miniature horse or pony! But if you get a full sized pony you have to be committed to ride, exercise, and care for it.
Ponies are not pets, they are livestock. They are a huge commitment in both time and money. Except for size there are no differences between the needs of a horse or the needs of a pony. You need to have a proper facility, feed and equipment along with someone to help you learn how to care for a pony. There is a lot that can go horribly wrong. If you are planning on riding it, you need to consider your size in relation to the animal's ability to carry a load.
If you would like to be able to spend time with horses/ponies, contact a local stable and see about riding lessons or check and see if there is a rescue organization or therapeutic riding facility in your area that would like a volunteer.
it depends if you have a lot of room if you don't they aren't very good because you cant really ride them and all they can do is sit around doing nothing and if you do have a lot of room ponies are really great pets because you can ride it and play with it and it can play all by itself and then you don't have to play with it as much.
