Can my boss take me off the schedule and cut my hours drastically to a position I wasn't hired for and give new people hours they want.

I wasn't asked to help out on two positions we are short staffed for which isn't a huge deal but there are applications sitting in the office for people who would qualify for the position instead they are hiring people for my position. I was working 5-6 days for the understaffed positions now cut to 2 days and still not back on schedule for my position. I've been there 3 years and newer people are getting plenty of hours. I did have an issue with being tardy but haven't been written up in over a year. the last 3 weeks I have been early. can they do this to me? what do I say to them about this?

If I were you..I would start looking for another job..while you have a job.

Address your concerns with your boss.
To answer your question, yes. Unless you have a written employment contract.
Sounds like office politics to me.

Not sure what state you work in but I live in Texas and employers can do what you describe and get away with it. I agree it's not fair. You could go to your state labor board and lodge a complaint but not sure what will happen. Wish you luck.

Thanks! Im not going to go and seek legal help I'm just curious because I want to know what to say when I address this with them! Honestly they don't deserve my hard work and obviously don't appreciate me so there loss. I just don't understand how a new manager can come in and do this to someone who has been working there for 3 years and obviously plays favorites.

It happens and it's not right. But considering your attitude I sure you be alright. Again good luck.

I agree with Arctic. Begin looking for a new job while you have a job. It's easier that way. Your employer is not happy with you. That is why those hours are going to other people. This is a good time to reflect upon the type of work habits you have so you can figure out the changes you need to make in your next job.

I agree, but I've been there 3 years, only called off 2-3 times due to weather or my kids. I work whenever they need me to, I stay for the pm shift when there are call offs I help out everywhere helps needed. I took over the marketing coordinator duties 2 years ago when we had nobody! New management came in and the one has obvious favorites! I had a tardy issue where i would run 5-10 mins late but have worked hard and have been early last few weeks I have 2 small kids and it gets a little hectic some mornings. but besides that I am a positive outgoing person I don't complain. ???

I'm def not saying I'm a perfect employee and irreplaceable. I also want to say I don't run around doing all this stuff for recognition or an excuse to be late, I just don't know why they are scheduling me out of my normal position without asking then cutting my hours completely after a made a big fuss about it!
