I think that you are required to contact your landlord to confirm on how you are required to be paying your rent. You can also contact the bank that has been managing the property to get more informed on this.
We are going through this right now. The house is going up for sheriffs sale in a month. We paid our rent (actually paid in advance) and our landlord never paid the mortgage or taxes... Awesome... We are going to bid on the house at the sheriffs sale, but have been informed that normally the bank(holder of mortgage) wins at the auction. In order for them to evict us.. They must wait 30 days for the deed to be recorded and then file for ejection (eviction) ... Which takes at least 60 days... We are just going to ride it out and try to recover from this awful blow. We have heard that when a bank takes over a property in some instances they will offer you cash for keys ... Essentially give you money to get out, or even offer you a lease. It is a nightmare sorry to hear you are dealing with this. My advice is to stop communicating with your landlord or tell him you will put the rent into escrow... Seriously eff that s!!
