i have done some research and found bith positive and negative. i believe it is good for you because of the carbohydrates and the carbonation helps break down food quicker.

There is nothing good or helpful for the human body in soda that cannot be found elsewhere without the negative effects the soda causes on you. I'm interested in your fact that it is good for you because carbonation breaks down food. I'm sure it does, but coca cola also breaks down battery corrosion. think about that the next time you put that nasty brown liquid to your lips. it's how I gave it up. I watched it break down the corrosion on my car battery terminals

I read that flat sodas such as cola. Is better than most sports drink. So does this mean I could drink some flat cola and the sideline and still get the same affects as gatorade or powerade?

You refer to the sideline. I assume you are playing football or some other sport. The Gatorade of powerade has B vitamins in it that replenish what your body sweats out. That being said water us still the best thing that you can put into your body. If you actually look at what is in Gatorade, yes it supplies nutrients, but they are a very small part of the drink. It's mostly sugar like soda. If you need a sideline drink I recommend lots of water with an occasional glass of Gatorade if you are a player that is in the game a lot.

Soda can be considered to be good for your health since it has some nutrients that are quite beneficial in giving energy. However, it also has some side effects like the effect of calcium that can cause body problems if taken in excess.

It is more bad than good. I still drink soda, but not that much.

The major problems:
Acid erodes your tooth enamel (then you brush the enamel away), same with fruits of course but soda is worse.
The beverage dehydrates your body, which makes you thirst for more so unless you change to a hydrating drink you will continue drinking soda which is worse.
Soda also makes your body hungry. That's why people claim diet sodas aren't better than regular. People drink the soda, so they get hungrier than before.

Now, I love drinking soda but mostly for that bubbly feeling in my mouth. I drink it every once in a while, but never consider soda good for me.

It has very little nutritional value, and is loaded with sugar (with many calories), that can contribute to weight gain and tooth decay. A better choice would be juices, water or tea. If flavored water tastes better, try to choose the ones that have low sugar and vitamins added. Herbal teas can be iced or hot. If you have a juicer at home, it can be fun to make natural juices to drink. If you get into healthy habits (eating right, exercising, and drinking enough of the right fluids), you'll feel better both physically and emotionally. It will also give you good self-esteem.
