Why do my parents allow this?

okay so i am 14 and i am not allowed to watch a movie rated 16, which i understand coz i am not old enough...but my 5 year old brother and 4 year old sister are allowed i mean they watch movies rated 18 and 16 and when i tell my parents its unfair and wrong they shout at me and ground me for being a selfish brat, why do they do this? Also i am never allowed to play on my dads iPad but my brother and sister can, why? am i overreacting or not? Plz explain why they do this to me?

I personally think its because you are more mature than them so when they watch a movie that is rated r, they really don't have the mentality to understand what the movie is actually about. and the i pad, your going to have to figure that out yourself.

May be you should sit down with your parents, and explain how you feel. Be calm, and respectful. Tell them you need them to listen to you without yelling at, or judging you. If they will not listen, I would talk with another adult you respect, like a grandparent, school counselor, etc. Ask that person for advice.

I'm afraid that your parents are missing the mark on this one... kids that age pick up on much more than we give them credit for... and I don't think they should be allowed to watch something so age-inappropriate. I'm with you, khloey. As far as the i-Pad goes, I've not one clue why your dad would allow them to use it and not you. Maybe you should print out this page and leave it on the breakfast table.

Might make for interesting breakfast conversation. I seriously think that they are WAY wrong for letting kids that young watch R-rated stuff... I found out the hard way one day when my 2-year old "stepson" repeated something he heard on Dr. Phil!

Couldn't agree more MsMaryJo, that sort of stuff can seriously mess a kid up. How have you been my dear? Feeling well? We must be on at different times lately as I hardly see you. Embarrassingly so, even though you gave me your email, I don't know how to email. I'm probably the only 31 year old in the world that's never done it :( Anyways, hope all is well with your health & family :)

I am not often shocked or surprised by people in this world anymore, ive felt I have seen, heard, experienced a lot but for the first time, in a long time, I say.... WOW! This is one of the most far out situations I have heard for awhile. I completely agree, you are too young for these things but so are your siblings (even more so actually). I wish I could offer some reasonable suggestion or understanding as to why this is happening but there doesn't seem to be one. The only thing that comes to mind as far as the movies go is,maybe, your parents think that at your siblings age they're not absorbing the meanings in the movie? Idk,sorry,it's the only thing I can think of. I don't think 4/5 year olds should be playing with expensive iPads regardless of wether you can or not. I would of thought it would be more ok for you not them. Sorry if this is offensive (I certainly don't mean for it to be) but do you have the same mother/father as your siblings? I only ask as I was thinking, maybe, you're getting treated differently by one parent for a reason? Its not logical to me at all, in this instance your parents are WRONG. I usually would not say that but, yeah, this is wrong :( The unfairness of it all aside, no one of that age should be viewing these movies as it can change their personality &/or affect their psyche in a negative way. On this occasion, you are RIGHT, they are out of line. Is there a trusted adult close to you that you can speak to about this? :)
