Not at all. You need Jesus, the only Mediator between God and mankind; you need Jesus, the only Savior of mankind; you need Jesus, the Light of the world; we need Jesus, the Way, the Truth, the Life.

"Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Jesus is religion is Jesus is religion is Jesus. There's no separating the two! "I have a relationship with my Savior Jesus but I don't have religion" is a completely nonsensical statement. Your relationship with Jesus is pretty much admitting you believe in Jesus 100%, and that my friend is religion. (Boy I gotta say I hate that youtube video with that poem about ending religion and replacing it with belief in Jesus! They're the same stinking thing!)

Jesus is also said to have said:

(Luke 14:26) "If any man come to me and hate not his father, his mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."

Shouldn't the believers in "ALL Jesus" believe & act upon that too?
Report as
By that Jesus meant that you must love Him much more than your parents and beloved ones. He seems to talk in metaphors a lot....
Report as
So Jesus means "love" by "hate"? So when he says "accept"; wouldn't that mean "reject"?
Report as
No, think harder bro. He says to love Him to the point that the love that you have toward your parents or loved ones is like hate compared to the love you must have toward Him. Like I said, it's a metaphor not sarcasm.
Report as
Why not the rest be taken as metaphor too. Is it u who decide what's a metaphor and what isn't?
Report as
Why, those the Metaphor has chosen to speak for Him, of course!
Report as
Yet they threat us when we wish to choose the metaphors that speaks for us! Alas!
Report as
Maybe you should stop comparing the Bible to a Humpty Dumpty book. You don't know anything about it and you think you're right for some reason. You live in a world that you think is the only world in existence.
Report as
Pious, Christians realize, because of this verse, that salvation is an individual matter and we can not allow anyone or anything to be idolized or loved more than God. Adam made this mistake in the Garden.
Report as
@end:
Is it necessary to "hate" someone in order to "love" someone? Is it rational? Does a mother say to his child that "if u don't hate your father than u can't love me"? Can a supposed god of love rationalize the idea of love through HATE?

Why does every word have to be redefined to modern day thinking? Consider what the meaning may have been in the original language and in the original time. Then think of it in the context of the character of God. Your antagonism may be a stretch just looking for an argument. If God's character can't be trusted just say so and move on.
Report as
Because, humanity is prone to change. They are adoptive to the new & good. They have always rejected the old & evil. People today care only for the softer virtues like love & tenderness, while they have forgotten the hard virtues of holiness, righteousness, and justice. Or may be people are finally starting to learn from centuries of religious tyranny that holiness, righteousness and (divine) justice are not virtues at all - but serious vices.

And vices & lies must be refuted. It pollutes human advancement & enslave human mind. If left unchallenged, it'll take us back to the dark ages once again. We don't want our children to face that cruel horror. No, we can't leave.

"For God is not a God of confusion but of peace."

Those spreading confusion and hate are not of God. God has revealed Himself as merciful, compassionate, patient. He promotes virtue, love, kindness, knowledge, and freedom.
A person's bad experience does not change the truth of who God is.

May the peace of God become real to all.
Report as
When the virtues associated with God ate considered "vices" society will fail and fall. We are headed that direction.

As God spoke through Isaiah,

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! "
Report as
And he goes on to say in Chapter 5:

"Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight!
Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine, and valiant men in mixing strong drink,
who acquit the guilty for a bribe, and deprive the innocent of his right!"

May God's people not be snared into being conformed to the world; but shine as lights in darkness. God bless the Christians on Ask, to remain faithful.

But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

To say such is too naive. On the same ground that you quoted to supersede Judaism on Christianity's claim of being the laws of its god; why, then, shouldn't one believe in islam which says in Sura Al-saff (The Ranks); Verse 7:

"But who is more unjust than he (who believes in the trinity of god) who forges a lie in the name of Allah (by calling Jesus the son of god). while hes called (to join the fold of islam). And Allah guides no unjust people to the ways of success."

The Bible explains the fallen condition of man, the Paradise lost, the promise of a Savior, and the requirements for restoration to Paradise from our Creator's perspective. Other religions have their own stories. If you desire an afterlife you must choose one. It would be wise to choose the right one because only one can be right. :)

True religion is neither rules-based nor ritual-based. True religion is a relationship with God. Two things that all religions hold are that humanity is somehow separated from God and needs to be reconciled to Him. False religion seeks to solve this problem by observing rules and rituals. True religion solves the problem by recognizing that only God could rectify the separation, and that He has done so. True religion recognizes the following:
1. We have all sinned and are therefore separated from God (Romans 3:23).
2. If not rectified, the just penalty for sin is death and eternal separation from God after death (Romans 6:23).
3. God came to us in the Person of Jesus Christ and died in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve, and rose from the dead to demonstrate that His death was a sufficient sacrifice (Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21).
4. If we receive Jesus as the Savior, trusting His death as the full payment for our sins, we are forgiven, saved, redeemed, reconciled, and justified with God (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Thanks for ur answer. I had to think about that some because I believe and follow Jesus and have come to the conclusion that my religion was trying to be Christlike and I have tried different "religions/churches and I have gotten dismayed in seeing how the ppl really act, so much so I almost don't want to identify with any of them, and that has made me wonder do I have religion if I can't follow those churches who espouse one thing yet follow another. There are times when I don't go to a church, yet the power in vested in me is stronger now then ever before.
I live in the "Bible Belt of the South," yet the practices of a lot of churches has almost made me feel like I was becoming a atheist! I just can't follow leadership that goes contrary to what God commands of us. So, I am breaking God's command, "do not forsake the gathering of the saints, in other words, we must go to church with other believers for instruction, fellowship and strength ." so many leaders are falling in this area it is unbelievable! How can I go to church when the leader has been acused of molesting boys? Yet the church members still follow him? Or they have all these buses parked out front, they know I an intercessor and need to be in place for all services and when I had a car I was faithful yet they tell me they don't pick up on weekday services and they will not come early enough for me to pray over the entire church and grounds before early morning service. I would get to church by 7:00 am before 8:30 service. For them it was too inconvenient and they knew I had been doing it for the last 10 years. And they were a large, rich congregation. Giving me no choice but to stay home for 3 yrs. so, I conclude Religion is my personal relationship with God. P.S., not one time in 3 years has anyone called to see if they could help get me to church knowing I was faithful to God and my group of Intercessors or to see if me and my husband were okay he was a faithful usher, not even Pastor! I now know church and religion are not the same! It has taken me these last 3 yrs to figure it out, maybe that's why we've had to be isolated so, I was so into the church I was available and involved myself in everything, Bishop knew me and would comment on our faithfulness. If something needed to be done we always were amount the "few" who made sure it got done. From cleaning bathrooms and pews to decorating the church every season. We didn't have a lot of money, but we donated our physical strengths instead without need of a pat on the back, yet when we needed them there was a problem my heart is heavy still because of this. I have practiced what was preached in many churches yet the lack of money well you know...

You think this way cuz many so called Christians are hypocrites and you find no change or difference between them and non believers. Well that's actually true. True change comes with true repentance and true faith. Not many people have that these days.... A lot of Christians are people pleasers but that's not what we're suppose to be.
I know a pretty good bet about atheism. I've lived in a communist country and know how skeptic you guys are. I understand. I was too but when my eyes were open to the truth, that's what I live by now. Or else I would be dead right now for over ten years.

That my "faith" wasn't solid! But that would be perjury & weak guess only. Don't make the mistake to tell me that I did not. I've learned theology deep enough to know that these are all bunks.
Report as
You're right. It wasn't solid. Am I not the first to notice? Did you know that the Devil knows the Bible? Unlike you, he believes in God but pushes lies to destroy us. He knows our weaknesses and uses them daily to kill us. You don't need to be a scholar to know that. In fact, you can read the Bible from cover to cover a million times and not understand the main idea of it. And religion is a push factor for many; I bet if I was Catholic or Orthodox I would leave and go have my own life. I know, it's boring and just plain religious. Coming back the actual question, you don't need a religion to be a Christian. It was made into one but it's not one. It's the truth and has been, and no one can change it no matter how hard you criticize....

Absolutely not. Theoretical Physics opened my eyes to this. Education will show you so many things. You just need to find your inner peace. Be at peace with everything in the world (which is made of star dust). Everything came from the same place. And if you research religion, it all revolves around the same concepts: Heaven, Hell, Be good, Have morals, you get what you give (reap what you sow), etc.

I think the only real issue with religion is that humans are so self-righteous that they believe there is a "Him." When, in fact, there may not even be a gender orientation outside of this planet, there is no time, everything is eternal, there is no death. I mean, why do we feel a need to call the universe "God"? We are all talking about the same energy.
Report as
I'm not quite gettin you.... What do you mean by the last sentence?
Are you asking why we call God a "He"? God doesn't have a gender; He created them. We call Him* that because it would be weird to call God a "She". Men have a lot of characteristics of God like power, leadership, etc. If that's what you're not sure about....
Report as
trainwrecktori
My point is, God and The Universe are the same entity. Omniscient, omnipresent, in us (physically) and around us... It's just energy. If you study physics, it explains so much of this. Took me 5 full years of studying physics and theoretical physics to fully understand, and make the connection.

As for the "Him" thing, I just find it silly. The bible quotes God calling "himself" a Him. That's where I stop taking it seriously.

In addition, to believe that the Holy Bible has any sense of purity left to it's interpretation, after thousands of years in the hands of greedy men, is nearly foolish. The Bible has become universal to every person, suddenly. Now I'm hearing Christians (ya know, the "non-religious" kind) saying that the Bible is okay with gay marriage. Really? Then why have Christians been responsible for casting out homosexuals for the last few thousand years?

See, humans like to twist things to assist their philosophies. Put simply, one can't argue with science or math. 2+2 will always equal 4, whether we like it or not. The only pure truth is in math.

I agree with you. But the Bible hasn't changed ever sense it's handwritten copies back in the times of the Romans. There are some fake copies like the book of Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses. They changed the Bible to make it fit their life. You can also compare the Old Testament to the Torah to see if it was changed significantly. That would tell you some stuff about the New Testament. You have to dig deep into theology to actually know what the whole book is about. It's a living panoramic. Everything fits so perfectly if you take time to notice the connections.
And about physics and science, I believe in a lot of it but not in theories like evolution and big bang. Physics agrees with the Bible if you think about it a lil. Theres a TON of physics laws and rules that are completely contrary to a lot of famous scientific theories. God made science but people misinterpreted it....

People misinterpret God, too.

If God and the Universe are just energy then why do we die?

We don't die. Nothing ever dies. That's the whole point of the "soul".

Go take some physics courses.

We die physically, not spiritually. You can't kill the soul, just like you can't kill Divinity.

True. And in grateful prayer;

"do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Just wondering, what do you mean by "believe"? Is it believing in His existence or in His redeeming plan for us and hopefully being part of it? Just wondering....

I would also add that in order to believe in God properly it might be important to "know" Him well
