Do my glasses have to get thicker every time my prescription gets stronger?

i'm a 16 year old girl who gets teased because of thick glasses. i'm wearing -8.75 but i just had an exam and the dr found that i was more nearsighted and gave me a prescription of -10.50. i already have the high index ones.

you get teased because your glasses are thick? that is so slack, why is society so judgemental these days. you don't deserve that. I would listen to the doctor, he would have prescribed you with -10.50 for a reason. You shouldn't be worried about what anyone else thinks, you are who you are, and there's nothing wrong with that. If people can't accept that then they aren't worth your time. :)

if you parents have bad eyes when you become an adult your eyes should get worse slower. my classes are almost an inch thick, and finally istead of them saying your eyes are alot worse, they say they are just a little worse, you might need the eye surgery someday, but dont wait untill your 40 or youll have problems. Im 16 by the, and I dont think it would be any different for a boy.

Your glasses don't have to get thicker because of change of prescription. There are thinner and more stylish glasses with attractive frames especially for young people. You could talk to your ophthalmologist about changing your glasses and frames to those that are more suitable for you.

You can get special lenses that aren't so thick, only works with special frame, and gets very expensive. My daughter is at -10 and buying $20 frames at Walmart her glasses still cost me $150. But maybe your parents insurance will help cover the cost. Good luck.
