Is it true that people who get tattoos are secretly rebelling against their parents ?

saw a movie where a police profiler was trying to find a killer and this was stated in the movie.

No. Sometimes people get tattoos because it really does express their feelings. Having a tattoo doesn't automatically mean someone is *rebelling*.

My mom has a few tasteful tattoos as do I, so do you mean the truly daring types (i.e. devils, fire, that cover a lot of the skin)? Otherwise, this is untrue.

i think that the premise of the movie was that your parents created you perfect and its an act of destroying their act of their creation by marking your body because of pent up childhood hostilities toward either your mother or your father. did i type that out to make any sence ?

So many of their parents have tattoos that wouldn't even make sense. Was I the only person alive in the 60's? 70's?

No. My parents were long deceased when I got my first tat. I do believe it involves a little rebellious nature to be different and maybe stand out in a crowd but not against the parents necessarily.
