1
Confront your problem. Get a camera and take some pictures of your bitten fingernails. Examine your nails, and list their problems.
2
Set a start day. Choose a day to stop biting your nails. Set an alert on your phone or mark it red on your calender so that you're prepared. Try saying that you'll quit on a day of the week such as Monday rather than a specific date. That way you have a clear day to try again if your first attempt is unsuccessful.
3
Visualize yourself with strong, healthy nails, and how great they will look. It may help to get a manicure as you start off your nail biting-free days, so that you actually have great nails to look at.
Consider getting a manicure with clear polish, so you can actually see your smooth nails and appreciate them.
4
Try painting your nails a bright color so you can notice when you're biting them.
Or you could try getting your nails professionally manicured, which involves getting acrylics glued to your nails. They last for ages and when you get them taken off, you will have your real natural nails underneath.
5
Force yourself to protect certain nails from biting. Pick at least one nail to "protect" at a time.
After a few days, a non-bitten nail will flourish and reward you. Do not bite it. If you must, bite one of the 'unprotected' ones. Sometimes it helps knowing that you have another nail to bite, even if you don't actually nibble at any unprotected ones.
Or, something else you can do, is chew something. Chewing gum helps focus your mouth on something other than your nails.
Once you have grown your non-bitten nail for a while, start protecting another one. And another. And another, until every single nail is protected. Do not un-protect nails after they have grown well.
6
Eat calcium and magnesium rich foods so that your nails will repair and grow well. Not only that, but most of the reason that the human body wants to bite nails is the lack of calcium and magnesium in the body and the body needs that material back.
7
Push your cuticles back. Many nail-biters do not have "moons" on the base of their fingernails because their cuticles have not been pushed back. To do this, gently push your cuticles towards your finger to reveal more of your nail. This is easier to do after a shower when your hands and nails are wet. This makes the nail appear longer, and it gives a more attractive shape, which might also be a motivation to stop biting.
8
Find a habit to take the place of nail biting. Whenever you have the urge to bite, do that instead. Some people like to drum their fingers, twiddle their thumbs, clasp their hands, put their hands in their pockets, or just stare at their hands. Just make sure it's not a bad habit; choose a helpful one or one that doesn't really matter either way.

One of the ways of breaking the nail biting habit is by placing either something spicy or bad tasting on one's nails. They will be aware of it when they are biting their nails and will also be less likely to do it because of the taste. You can also keep your mouth busy with another activity, like eating carrots or chewing gum. Check out http://www.wikihow.com/Stop-Biting-Your-Nails for more tips.
Chew gum. It's helps a lot. It keeps your mouth busy and you won't want to bite your nails with gum in your mouth.
They make clear polish that tastes awful to put on your nails for this purpose.
wear gloves all the time
Buy some boxing gloves. Also tell some close friends your problem and enlist their help. Ask them to bash you every time you go for a nibble.
Dip fingers in hot sauce 4 a whole day and you will fill da pain in yo nails!!
put finger nail polish on that will taste nasty so u wont bite them
Just about everyone's given you the right advice; you need behavioral modification training. While the self-help suggestions can work, sometimes, if you're serious about breaking this habit you should seek professional help from a counselor at work or school. They'll put you one the right track to breaking this habit.

I bit my nails for YEARS! and it got so bad that I would bite the nail completely off and they would bleed- I would use false nail to cover them up and would bite them off too and would have to continually replace them. At work they inforced a mandate- no more false nails- I was freaked- I felt like a lady with no hair was told she couldn't wear her wig anymore.... well i got online and found this 'nibble no more' by Jessica Nails and got that and a bunch of manicure stuff- every night I would put on cuticle oil and soft thin white cotton gloves and then in the morning put on the nibble no more and IT WORKED! it tasted so gross- super bitter- makes you sooo mot want to put your hands in your mouth. I now have beautiful nails that I can get manicured! I love it- and wish you the best! you can do it!
girl lol i need this info too. Me and my twin sis have a habit of biting our nails. My family keeps telling me to stop but a habit is a habit. i always tell them i am nervous or hungry but i guess that is a lie :)
I have a really bad habit of tht too and they are so short they start bleeding. Put false nails on so if u bite u cnt. Or acid nail polish remover on every time u think about biting them. Put pepper or lemon juice on it.
Chew gum. It's helps a lot. It keeps your mouth busy and you won't want to bite your nails with gum in your mouth.
Keep nail files everywhere, car, wallet, desk, etc. Any time you feel the slightest rough spot, smooth it out. I bit my nails for forty years! This worked for me. Also damaging the cuticle and nail bed will deform the nail.
Paint your nails to make them look so beautiful that you don't want to bite them. Get a manicure and show them off!
I quit by choosing a "special" nail to grow while biting the others.
Then after a time adding another and continuing until there was just one nail left to bite.
Then I clipped them all quite short, which felt uncomfortable and I was only content when they all grew out to a comfortable length.
you may lack some vitamines or calcium , go to see a doc then he will help you quit this habit
Put an elastic band on ur wrist and every time that u bite ur nail u pull back on it and let go and make sure it hurts
I WAS a nail-EATER for 45 yrs and I am very proud to say that it has been almost a year since I quit! I have nails on all 10 fingers and I can scratch my own itches and pick up coins and guitar picks when I quit I found all kinds of uses I never thought of. Back to the how, #1 desire, you have to really want it! #2 get a pet bird or something that poops all the time, do I need to elaborate? #3 one day at a time, no, one minute at a time and as each day goes by it gets easier. If I can do it then anyone can, Good Luck, and if you fail once keep trying!!!
I used to bite my nails when I was younger, so I told my friend that whenever I tried to bite my nails to slap my hand. If you aren't always around your friends then put your hands in your pocket.
Well, what I used to do is have this clear polish, and what it does is make the nail taste horrible. So you won't be tempted to bite it. However, if you want a fun way of doing it, I suggest bubblegum! Ah, yes, the nostalgic feeling of bubblegum! ;) Hope this helped!
put a tight rubber band on your wrist and when you start to bite your nails just pop your wrist with the rubber band. OR. get your nails painted really pretty and then you will realize you dont want to screw up your $40 manicure.
