ok I'm 26 years without a driver license. would I have to take the written test like every one else. please help

Not sure how it varies from state to state, but in CA you do.

You need to take the written test to get your learner's permit then later take a driving test.

My wife got her license at 28.

You should take the written test like everyone else because it is approved by the law. I assume if you pass the test, they will give you a driver's license. Visit this link to look at different samples of tests, which you'll be asked: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/interactive/tdrive/exam.htm.

If you have never had a license some state require that you hold a permit for a period of time first. Ohio is 6 months. Illinois is 9 months and so on

Yes you need to take a written test and past before you can take a driving test to get the driver license.
