Is it wrong to ask out a guy?

i asked out this one guy a few months ago, and everyone was like: thats the guys job.. was it?

It is appropriate and encouraged for girls to ask guys out. This is because it takes pressure off them, since they do not need to deal with the anxiety associated with the potential rejection.

Yeah that whole bit about only guys doing the asking is way old school. That's before my time, and I'm in my 40s!
