And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. (Luke 4:9-12 KJV) /// What Jesus is saying in Marks Gospel if some one try's to poison you with a deadly drink the attempt on your life will not work. He's not implying that believers are to prove there faith in him by doing a foolish act like drinking poison. He also said they shall take up serpents but that doesn't mean that we should go pick up a deadly snake to prove we are a Christian. He's saying if we get bitten by accident. (((Read))). Paul gathered up a bundle of sticks and was putting them on the fire when a snake came out on account of the heat and fastened itself to his hand. The natives saw the snake hanging on Paul's hand and said to one another, ?This man must be a murderer, but Fate will not let him live, even though he escaped from the sea.? But Paul shook the snake off into the fire without being harmed at all. (Acts 28:3-5 GNTD)
I did read a true story recently where while a christian man was in prison, a doctor and guard came in to have a talk with him. They placed a cup in front of him full of poison and asked him if he believed God would save him if he drank it. The man did say that is what scripture says. So, they asked him to drink it. The man asked to pray first and he prayed that these other two men would believe and trust in God. He then, picked up the cup and drank the whole thing. He should have died within seconds. (prior to this, they brought a big dog in and gave the dog just a tiny sip and the dog fell over dead) They sat there for 30 minutes while take his vital signs. They realized God had saved him and the Dr. made a statement that God is real and alive and he wanted to follow him, too. I believe this took place around world war 1.
Our God is a God of Miracles...........why do you have a doubt in him..............in these terrible days Satan is going to test you hard................we gonna die if we don't have faith in him not that poison is going to kill us........believe in GOD

those abilities were only given to those few Christians of the first century and should not be the only things relied upon to identify true Christians; Matt.24:24 "False Christ’s and false profits will arise and will give great signs(also translated as miracles) and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. Matt.7:15-23: "Be on watch for the false prophets....Many will say to me in that day.’Lord, Lord, did we nor prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works (again also translated as miracles) in your name?' And yet I will confess to them: I never knew you! Get away from me you workers of lawlessness." continued in comments
And if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; not that they were hereby warranted to drink poison, to show what power they had; but should they accidentally drink it, or rather should they be forced to it by their enemies in order to destroy them, they should find no hurt by it: and Papias reports of Barsabas, surnamed Justus, who was put up with Matthias for the apostleship, Acts 1:23, that he drank a poisonous draught, and by the grace of the Lord, received no hurt: and the Jews themselves report, that "a son of R. Joshua ben Levi, swallowed something hurtful; and one came and whispered to him in the name of Jesus, the son of Pandira (so they call our Lord), and he did well." Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible
Isn't it funny How convenient it all is. "The bible is to be taken literally." But when its time to drink the kool-aid it's now a metaphor. Or "no no this was the part where maybe the bible was corrupted." how about "I interpret the bible uniformly except the kool-aid scipture." This one's my favorite: "it has to be on accident." Your all fire and brimstone til the big red pitcher busts through the wall. OHH YEAHHH!
When we choose to take words out of content, and it doesn't matter what book, you can distort the meaning. Just as the "Message" states they will drink, yet that is not the original verse. The King James Bible was the first to compile the writings together. This is what the King James stated: 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.."

To my fellow Christians, you may feel I'm "giving up" on this person being helped by quoting a scripture I have never quoted before. However, in this case, after watching all of this unfold for 2 months, I honestly don't believe this Asker has any intention but to provoke people & keep volatile arguments going. There are many people on Ask.com who really want to learn about the Bible, about Jesus, God, etc. But on this person's profile, it says he/she likes to answer questions about "religious fraud" and "manipulation." What I'm thinking is that there are plenty of people on our site that have questions where they truly want to LEARN about God, His Only Son, the Bible, etc., that need your wonderful answers. This Asker doesn't want that -- just to be argumentative. Here's the scripture: Mt.7:6: Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet & turn and tear you to pieces." (Which I'll probably I'll probably have told to me,) But I will not argue what I know & have experienced in my life.
