How old is he? Make sure he has lots of toys. And use positive reinforcement.

First, your dog should always have available dog food or he's gonna eat whatever he can find. If he has available food but keeps on eating everything, you should punish him everytime he eats something else than his food, hopefully with time he'll learn. If nothing works try to keep things away from him.

I know this might sound rough, but a dog is like a baby. If it tried to eat your shoelaces you will have to take it away from it, and maybe give it a little slap on the hand (In the dogs perspective, on the nose).
If the dogs then stops biting the item any further, you should award it with a cracker or something like that. Don't award it too often though, that can become dangerous for the dogs health :).
This have worked perfectly well on the dogs I've seen :).

I wish you the best of luck.

To stop your lab from eating everything, clear off tables, pick items off the floor or anything that your dog can get his paws onto. I also recommend a crate for anytime your dog is left alone in the house. A crate will help your dog feel safe and relaxed. You can also buy your lab toys, which will keep him busy.
