Is it alright to make a reference to an actual band that's still around in a book?

I'm trying to write my own book right now, and I'm having a woman singing a song that's by a Christian band named Newsboys. I don't know if it's alright to do that or not based on copyright issues, since I can't remember reading a book that referenced anything more than something like McDonalds or Sprite soda or something like that.

i would think so, when you send it to the publisher, they'll point it out to you if it's not ok

Referencing the band or the song is fine. Just don't publish the lyrics without permission.
