Can someone explain to me the meaning of this quote "If you love someone,you got to let them go."?

It means that if they fall in love with anyone else you gotta let them go... If you 'love' them,you want them happy... right? So you must learn to let go. Usually if they 'Love' you back just as much they will come back to you because they love you which will end up making your relationship that much stronger because you know what it feels like to be without one another.

well she lived far from me, so we decided to split up,after a year she came to the town i am,but i was busy kind of,we were friends though,very close,,well long story short,she had a bf i went and talk to the guy, she wanted me to,she said if i go out with you it would be cheating,and now she's my wife
ps;i knew her 4 seven or eight years.it's been 3 years we are married, the best thing ever happened to me!

It means that if you love somebody you need to let them go, if they come back then you can keep them I don't know if that makes any sense to you but it does to me!!!

Really good answer. If you don't mind, I'd like to add a little, hijack your answer, so to speak since I just got the 12 hour time out message. I answered a Q earlier yesterday about what love is... and this was my reply. I think it goes along with letting someone go if you truly love them. Thanks...
you love someone, you want what is best for them, even if that means them not being with you. Infatuation is selfish; love is selfless. True love is always putting the other person's well-being and needs above your own. It means that if you like someone, but they like someone else you should let them go out with that other person, as long as they are happy, you should be happy.

If you love something, set it free; if it comes back it is yours; if it doesn't it never was. It can mean that if you love someone that wants to leave let them go. If they come back then you know that they love you. If they don't then they never loved you and you would not want someone in your life that didn't love you.

Loving someone & being able to let go of them means you're not dependent on them being in your life. It then becomes loving them because you choose to & not because you have to. Very freeing for both parties! :)

Meaning that to trust and not be so domineering.
Let them show there loved one, what they can do.
you got to Let them go ,
Let me shine,
Don't crowd me and believe in me

it means, if you truly love someone, then you can trust them when you're not together to be faithful :)
