What's an inspirational or powerful bible verse?

I would like to spend part of my summer getting closer to God. Tonight I want to stay up and look up some inspirational bible verses if you guys know any. I don't want what the verse actually says though, I want to go look them up. Please and thank you.

Report as

The best inspiration bible verse is at Psalm 27:4. It says "Taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the one who takes refuge in him". Another one is "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity" found in Proverbs 17:17. Ps 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.
10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

Man, too many to list and for different times and circumstances. Have a suggestion. Take the day of the month, say 25 for May 25. Read and meditate on Psalm 25, 55, 85, 115 and 145. Each day read, meditate and pray over the five Psalms for that day, starting with the date of that day (then add 30, 60, 90, 120). We can read many inspirational verses from the entire book of Psalms in a month. Meditation takes into account what the verse says, then what it is saying to me, then how can I apply it today. God bless you on your summer adventure to know Him more deeply and intimately. There is no greater purpose.

(Matthew 10:34-37) "Think not that I am come to send peace to earth: I come not to send peace, but a sword. (35) For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in- law against her mother-in-law. (36) And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. (37) He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me."

(Luke 14:26) "If any man come to me and hate not his father, his mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."

Lol. Keeping your reputation, I see, as one who likes to demonstrate an inability (or unwillingness?) to read the Bible in context. And for attempts to discourage others, for whatever reason. Perhaps a domineering legalistic authority figure in your life; so now it becomes your mission; but so unbecoming.
Report as
Be careful about quoting passages from the bible that tell it how it really is, the thought-police will censor you.
Report as
And you too are true to the infamy as your god & to your reputation! Pinching the person instead understanding his opinions. You know what that's called in philosophy:

AD HOMINEM - Latin for "to the man". This is attacking the arguer and not the argument.

Your behavior is even worse of unbecoming, as it seems!!
Report as
The sword signified justice.
Report as
Jesus said to love everyone, but we are supposed to love Him and God more. If we love God we will love others too, because they are his children and a man filled with the love of God will want to bless others. But we put God first.
1 John 4:20-21:If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
Report as
Loving less is not HATE. You are not being rational. You cannot ask your child to HATE his father in order to LOVE his mother, can u?
Report as
Sword cannot signify justice to an ALL LOVING god. That would violate the idea of compassion.
Report as
Who are you to set standards on what compassion's boundaries are?
Report as
I am none. Nor is your god or his agents - that's you.
Report as
Okay!! have you ever heard of the armor of God? the Bible is used as a sword.
The Bible as many of you know, is a hot topic to argue about. God was saying this. for many will not want to believe in certain parts because they offend them. so many families or households may devide because they disagree.
also it is true. you cannot love anything or anyone more than God. if you do then you arent putting God first in your lives.
but God didnt come to be peaceful here on earth! the enemy roams the earth and good and evil cannot coexist peacefully!! God came with a shout and a sword and we must break the enemy down!! we must win spiritual battles!! and divides in families might result due to spiritual bonds!
thats all i got on this for now
Report as
What about "love thy enemy" or say "resist not evil" then? Just some mouthful words to suit the agenda?
Report as
You gotta know the original text on this part. The word "enemy" is different when you're talking about people or satanic power. Love your enemy is about loving everyone who is a creation of God. To destroy your enemy like brettybee said is about over coming temptations and lies from the Devil. This is the exact reason many critique the Bible, they don't know the original text. The original texts were a LOT more vivid in describing the whole Bible.
Report as
Roman, a great man once said "I don't want to fall in the vulgar mistake that I understand bible just as "god" wanted it to be". You fall in it too frequently.
Report as
I always think that people that ask religious questions are very brave. Always have at least one intolerant person on these to be oppositional or spread their agenda. Not believing in God isn't enough, they have to harass others.
Report as
To you every opposition seems to be harassment. If your bible teaches hate, then everyone is well justified that it teaches so. To say so is not harassing rather telling truth. If telling truth is harassing or hating to u, then you are more intolerant than anyone else. If u don't like others to oppose even with truth & reason, then why not be at your own. If u are in a public forum then u must learn to accept criticism. You are talking like the Presbyterians of dark ages. Whose inventor was equally "holy" & "divine" as Jesus (at least half of Europe thought so), John Calvin, said "religious tolerance is almost as heinous as blasphemy"!!
Report as
Like you're telling the truth. Lol. We lived our lives, we know what God thinks and how He works. It's called self-experience. And I'm not feeling harassed to be honest. I am living of a defensive to protect and explain. Not to offend or harass. Why would you think I'll be here telling people bout Christ? Cuz I know it's true! You don't see me going around telling people about some unicorns I say in the forest. That's fairy tale.
As many times as you've read the Bible, you didn't find that panoramic, did you? You didn't find any connection between the Old and New Testaments. I haven't even read the Bible ones completely and can already see whats going on.
Report as
You speak of your god because u were taught by tradition. Not for truth. The Jews, Muslims & Hindus claim the same experience & holiness of their deity. There's no reason to suppose u are ONLY right while they are all wrong. No farmer tells his crop inferior than others but that doesn't make him right.

You don't talk about unicorns because it doesn't claim divinity or imposed a scripture. All our ancestors worshipped the "golden calf", remember?

Have u read the Torah of the Jews, Gita of the Hindus or the Koran of the Muslims? If u did, then, did u find those panoramic? No. Why? The reasons u've to reject those as non-panoramic, I've the same reason NOT to find the your bible panoramic too.
Report as
@roman and shaylen, It seems you have pious scrambling to come up with the next argument in his list of supposed claims against Christ and Christianity. Hard to get him to debate when he bounces from one weak position to another. He doesn't realize that Mohammed never claimed to be God, nor Buddha, nor any other religious founder that was ever taken seriously. Yet Jesus did. The most important question becomes, 'Who is Jesus?'

"This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God."
Report as
Insane people always insist to be sane. To u these will seem weak because of your weaker concept of firmness. However, as it seems u can't argue a point without vaguely attempting to defame the commentator is only a matter of mental sickness to me. That makes me doubt your psychological soundness & nothing else. As I told u earlier, it's called AD HOMINEM & it's a heinous thing to do in the profession of psychology. Claiming to be god is more absurd than claiming to be prophets. In that sense Jesus was more deformed than the rest. Self proclamation proves nothing - if u didn't know it yet, then it's a pity!!
Report as
See what I mean. Try to focus on the facts of a position and they turn it into personal attacks. Sounds a lot like the liberal media strategy. Thanks.
Report as
And calls us liars! Why are you bringing up topics that you know you're gonna scornfully disagree on? We lived it and you with your boneheadedness are telling me I'm a liar? Really? You're a horrible debater! Christ lives and you can't changed that....
Report as
Christ is dead for last 2000 years. Dead men can't live. You lived nothing but your delusions. Those who demand proofs are not boneheaded rather full of intellect. Those who doesn't are rather brainless. However, bonehead is far better than brain-dead.
Report as
Thank God Christ is risen indeed and shown it w/ convincing proofs.
Report as
Take an intellectual person and they'll tell you that if a man was first crucified and later not found, that prolly means he's not dead. And if there's proof, that would make you either retarded or extremely ignorant to not understand and except. Btw, we all know you have a demon in you, so stop fighting Jehovah.... You'll lose.
Report as
Later not found because his disciples stole his body. It may be necessary for u to seek intellectual help given the capacity of your brain but a thinking man need not intellectual help to perceive such fraud. Moses' body was also not found, remember? The same way u knew that I have a demon inside, are the same way u know your god exists, & that proves how weak & ludicrous are your CLAIMS. And we have experienced how your god WINS, even if by murdering innocent child & giving instruction to people like u to rape helpless women. By the way, the more you are exposed to truth the more you sound like your Christian ancestors of the dark age! It only produces laughter.
Report as
Richest:
Give us just ONE of those CONVINCING proofs. If u really know what CONVINCING implies!!
Report as
It takes even more intellect to know that you can't steal a body from a tomb guarded by at that time world's most powerful and sophisticated army troops. Above all, why would they steal his body if they didn't know what Jesus was talking about his death but only after he rose? They came to the tomb. They saw Him alive and raised with the clouds to Heaven. Eye witnesses bro, eye witnesses....
Report as
thanks, Roman. There have been so many people share so much evidence for the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on this site for the past year. If certain people refuse that, they are not interested. It is sad; but I have only known a very few people who have reached that point to the extreme I have observed here. I know you and others are more than willing to share and even debate, but others only seem to live to antangonize...
Report as
You're welcome:)
I'll defend what is true even onto death. But I know what you mean, some people just want to start a fire which they don't even think of putting out. Let us walk in unity cuz isolation only leads to sin.

IMPOSITION THEORY:
# Jesus died on the cross. His body was laid in the grave & later stolen by some of his followers and buried elsewhere. He's never resurrected.

Some thoughts:
# Matthew 28:12-14 described how the Jewish elders promoted this theory. "...they gave large money unto the soldiers, Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, & stole him away while we slept. And if this come to the governor's ears, we'll persuade him, & secure you." Some suggest that the events of this passage never happened. If the soldiers were found to have fallen asleep on the job, they themselves would have been executed. No amount of money would persuade them to run that risk.

# Critics of this theory suggested that his disciples appeared to be discouraged and disillusioned by Jesus' arrest and death. Something changed them so that they quickly became vigorous proselytizers, totally committed to the spreading the gospel message, in spite of the personal hazards involved. The critics suggest that the change couldn't have happened as the result of a lie.

# It is conceivable that only a small number of Jesus' supporters could have arranged for the body to be removed -- perhaps only a single person, with some hired help. The removal of the body could have been done in secret without the rest of Jesus' disciples finding out. Disciples could have experienced a mass hallucination, & believed that they'd seen & met the resurrected Jesus.
Report as
THE SWOON THEORY:
Jesus did not die; he only became unconscious on the cross. He was removed by a few of his followers, laid in the tomb,& left. He recovered there, & later appeared to his followers. Most of his followers not knowing of his recovery, may have adopted the story of resurrection as the most likely explanation of his seeming death & reappearance.

Some thoughts:
# The Roman Army had a quite efficient executing procedures. The soldiers in charge of the death squad would have themselves been sentenced to crucifixion if they had let one of the convicted criminals live. Many historians feel that It is unlikely that they'd have been fooled by an unconscious victim.

# Normally, crucifixion takes many days of agony before the victim dies. Jesus was only on the cross for a matter of hours. It is quite possible that he'd have survived a few hours of exposure without dying.

# Medical science in 1st century Palestine was very primitive. Some people had been known to have entered a coma, appeared to have died, and recovered days later. If doctors could be fooled by a coma, perhaps the Roman Soldiers might have been also.

# The Catholic Encyclopedia suggests that if Jesus was placed in "a sealed sepulcher for thirty-six hours, in an atmosphere poisoned by the exhalations of a hundred pounds of spices," that environment alone would have caused his death. However, we only know the maximum length of time that Jesus was presumably in the tomb: from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Nobody knows how long he would have been actually exposed to the spices. He might have emerged from the tomb on what the Jews considered Saturday morning (our Friday night) after a short interval, and the tomb only found to be empty some 33 hours later.
Report as
LOL whole bunch of stupid theories that gave been proven wrong. You can't live after crucifixion! Are you nuts? Those theories were made up by atheists whole desperately try to pervert the truth and destroy what is good. You guys are nothing but a whole bunch of haters! And you talk about common sense....
Report as
Those theories were debunked decades ago. No sincere scholar even brings them up anymore. Your own comments debunk it.
Evidence That Demands a Verdict, by Josh McDowell thoroughly addresses these and other, with many pages of documentation. He has spoken in universities all over the world and no one has successfully refuted his research. Josh was a former active skeptic by the way, and former atheist Lee Strobel also ended up becoming a Christian after doing research on the resurrection of Christ. It is well established historically, legally and logically.
Report as

Report as
Richest: None of these were ever refuted beyond reasonable doubt. I can give you at least 50 web & books references which says opposite to your's. By the way, I know as many as 25 Christian clergy, who were devout once, & now are atheists or agnostics; does that prove anything?

Roman:
I know most Christians lack decency in matters of faith, but u resemble your ancestors of the dark ages. I despise people like u, who can't afford to have a civil discussion without resorting to slang & bully. It is people like you that gave Christianity a bad name.
Report as
And each person will stand before God for their own decisions. Truth is not determined by majority rule. Truth would remain true even if no one believed it.

If you went to equip.org, you would understand why Roman and I were so shocked to hear someone bring up these theories again. You seem to delight in raising questions that obviously require more explanation than is practical here. Short answers are not sufficient. What exactly leads you to "know" that "most Christians" "lack decency" and "slang" and "bully"? That is quite a survey. If it is based on a survey of those on Ask, I can see a thread of truth. Forgive me for not acting Christianly.
