How to do I help my 8 year old who seems afraid if a baseball?
Read below for more details

my son has been playing baseball for 5 seasons now but he seems afraid of the baseball when trying to catch a line drive or even a pop fly during a game. when he is practicing at home it's like no fear he catches the ball with no problem. any suggestions on how we can ease his fear of catching during the game. for 3 seasons he's played out field but this year he's playing third, I just don't want him to get discouraged. he loves playing baseball!

3rd is very different from
playing OF. The line drives come faster and the time to react is less. Just keep having him practice.

Any suggestions on how to help him with his game anxiety? I can see it when he is on the field compared to when he is practicing.....

I'm sure during a game he's worried about making an error. Just reassure him that mistakes are made sometimes. Major league players have errors on occasion

You can help your child by showing him that the game can be fun to play or watch. On a Sunday afternoon, you should decide to play with him in your backyard or any open field so that you can get him to like the game.

Thanks for your suggestion....we have already instilled in him that playing baseball is fun and exciting but as the older he gets the more anxiety he is getting.....more so this season than any other.

If i were you i would grab a bat and a ball and take him to the local park and hit some out to him to get him use to it.. It would probably be easier learning with just you 2 and not having to worry about the other kid's

Thanks for your suggestion. That is something we already do, but it's like he has game anxiety.
