Incorrect
It is a fact proven by several nonreligious historic writtings, including a slave historian named Josephus and a well known Roman named Pliny, that a man named Jesus from Nazareth, a jewish carpenter by trade did in fact exist and created and lead a very popular, dangerously popular, religious sect around the early part of the new Roman Empire and caused both the Romans and the Jewish leadership quite a few headaches.

Isn't this what I just said..! Your argument is invalid, I'm not incorrect.. Nice job copy/paste off a website..
Report as
Not copy/paste sweety. Ive read some of the works of Josephus. Have it on Kindle. Read a bit of Pliny as well but both are a bit dry and difficult to follow. Very interested in ancient Rome so have done a great deal of research.
Report as
Of course there were definately historic records surviving from Jesus day. People kept all sorts of records. Many many things were lost when the Libraries at Alexandria burned but many survive to today. How do you think we know so much about the roman caesars and men like the Plinys, ancient roman society and politics, etc? The romans were very sophisticated for their time and they kept excellent records: historic, political, scientific, etc.
Then, of course, there were very real religious texts like the dead sea scrolls (named for where they were found) that became the modern Bible.
Report as
Books called bible is no authority to attest the validity of Jesus for a neutral man to accept. That would defy the basic logic principles & foundation of the concept of evidence on any subject for an unbiased enquiry.

Do u know the entire history of the dead sea scrolls & its way of reception by the Christian's? Or just the part that u were told? Just curious!

well, there is no proof. most people would say you have to have faith. but i am agnostic, which means that i believe there could be a higher power, as in a god, but i don't have proof so i don't believe it all. there is no scientific proof, which means that anything could be possible i guess.

people were created, but what if the creator were among us? Jesus and people might be considered the same but Jesus was pure and holy, without original sin. Jesus is pretty much the same as god. now the real question is if god is real. that can be explained easily but you would have to search farther than the internet.

How do we know Jesus even existed? Well, how do we know George Washington or Abraham Lincoln ever exist? We were not there. We rely on history and records from that period. So, too, with Christ. The primary record of His existence is the Bible. Although we Christians usually think of the Bible as the Word of God, we should remember that much of it is a historical record as well. The New Testament documents, in particular, give us vital historical information about Jesus, even though they are not intended to be extensive biographies in the modern sense. The New Testament picture of Jesus is supported by non-Christian historical sources, although there are not many of these that have survived from the time of the early Church. The probable reason for such scant non-Christian historical evidence is that the Roman, who were the main historians of the time, would not have been concerned with a small outpost of their empire like Palestine. (My answer continues in the comments)

The Jewish historian Josephus does record the existence of Jesus and the fact that He was executed under Pontius Pilate. This supports the New Testament account, as do all other ancient secular references to Christ, such as those found in the works of the Roman writers Tacitus, Suetonius, and Pliny the Younger. In fact, no serious historian today doubts that Jesus existed.

Hope this helps! - ManOfKnowledge

Report as
"Well, how do we know George Washington or Abraham Lincoln ever exist? "

Because we have photographs/paintings of them, because we have MULTIPLE sources which reference their existence.

"The Jewish historian Josephus does record the existence of Jesus and the fact that He was executed under Pontius Pilate."

Sorry, but this part of Josephus' writings are generally considered to be fraudulent. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephus_on_Jesus

Anyway, there is a big difference between Jesus existing, and Jesus being the son of God.

Believing that Jesus was the Son of God is not blind faith (that is, faith opposed to reason or without reason). True, we can't fully "see" from reason alone that Christ is the Son of God, but this does not make faith in such things unreasonable. True faith is super-rational (above reason), not irrational (against reason). In fact, it is the alternative expressions of Jesus' identity (that He was a a Liar, a Lunatic, or a Guru) that require blind faith. The truth of our faith hinges on the identity of Jesus Christ, who founded it. Was He who He said He was? When considering this question, 1) He was a liar, 2) He was a lunatic, 3) He was a guru, 4) He was Lord. Let me try to succinctly point out that He had to be God and Lord. To begin, Jesus clearly indicated that He was God and accepted the worship due God in several places in Scripture. He performed dozens of recorded miracles to substantiate His claim, including walking on water, feeding the five-thousand with just five loaves of bread and two fish, and raising people from the dead.
Report as
In addition, ten of the twelve apostles died as martyrs for this belief in Jesus (Judas betrayed Jesus and hanged himself, and the apostle John died a natural death). The ten apostles who chose to be killed would not have seen Him prove His divinity by His miracles. Jesus cannot be a liar. He chose to die a brutal death and turned down offers of political power. A liar (or opportunist) would do neither. Jesus cannot be a lunatic or "crazy." His teachers were rational and His thinking was calculated and very clear. Jesus cannot be a "guru" (that is, a "New Age Master") trying to "raise our consciousness" and tell us we are all God. He flatly denied that we are all God. He made it very clear that He was without sin and we are not. He is from above, and we are from below.
Report as
So, it becmes very difficult to come up with an explanation other than Peter's: "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God" (Matthew 16:16). Assuming then that Jesus was God, we need to look for what He came to do. Scripture reveals that He came to die for our sins and establish a Church that would teach in His name when He went ot heaven.

There's no question that Jesus existed. Before the Bible was the Bible (namely, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) it was written history. You believe what's written down in your history books, don't you? Everything about the men talked about in them, like George Washington, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein. Why then should there be any question that Jesus was real, and that his miracles were real? Even many agnostics don't doubt that Jesus was a real person. Jesus did not do ANY of his miracles in secret, they were always in front of many people, and many of them were still alive after Jesus' death and resurrection. The same people who saw him die were the same people who saw him alive 3 days later. Why is it still debated? Because it's the Bible.

The answer is, 'yes', the Bible is true and has much objective and historical, archaeological and prophetic evidence. Much more than can be written in this little paragraph. The question is, "are you willing to investigate?"
A new book by Hank Hannegraaff, called "Has God Spoken?" will give definitive answers. Also a website called www.equip.org. thanks, kristen.

That such a man as Jesus existed, & that he's crucified (which was the mode of execution at that day), are historical relations strictly within the limits of probability. He's a virtuous & an amiable man. The morality that he preached & practiced was of the most benevolent kind; and though similar traits of morality had been preached by Confucius, & by some of the Greek philosophers, many years before, by the Quakers since, and by many good men in all ages.

His (jesus') historians, having brought him into the world in a supernatural manner, were obliged to take him out again in the same manner, or the first part of the story must have fallen to the ground. The wretched contrivance with which this latter part's told, exceeds everything that went before it. The supernatural part the story has every mark of fraud and imposition stamped upon the face of it. The resurrection and ascension, supposing them to have taken place, admitted of public and ocular demonstration, like that of the ascension of a balloon, or the sun at noon day, to all Jerusalem at least. A thing which everybody is required to believe, requires that the proof and evidence of it should be equal to all, and universal; and as the public visibility of this last related act was the only evidence that could give sanction to the former part, the whole of it falls to the ground, because that evidence never was given. Instead of this, a small number of persons, not more than eight or nine, are introduced as proxies for the whole world, to say they saw it, and all the rest of the world are called upon to believe it. But it appears that Thomas, one of Jesus' apostles, did not believe the resurrection; &, as they say, would not believe without having ocular & manual demonstration himself. So neither will I; and the reason is equally as good for me, and for every other person, as for Thomas.

There is no proof that Jesus was a real man. Many people believe there is historical evidence to prove he was but there isn't any in actuality. The only "proof" we have is the gospels of the New Testament. The books were written several decades after Jesus lived and thus didn't witness anything firsthand (if you believe there was anything).
