When the Captain saw the iceberg dead ahead, he panicked and cranked hard on the wheel to try and miss the iceberg. It was the worst thing he could have done. If he had hit the Iceberg dead on, the Titanic wouldn't have sunk.

The titanic set sail in 1912 and didn't last even more then 5 days before it sank. Most people might think the titanic sunk at 11:40 on April 14th but that's when they HIT the iceberg. The titanic really sunk on April 15th at 2:20am. Some of the survivors were able to get to the life boats. The boat Carpathia had came and saved the remaining people. Some people even after being saved DIED from hypothermia.. It must of been very sad ): We all make mistakes some times though )':
There are those who blame the quality of the ship's steel and/or it's rivets but the informed consensus now is that with the state of the technology available to her builders, Titanic just could not be designed to survive a collision with an iceberg. When it did, nothing could stop its journey to the bottom.
