What is the story of Adam & Eve?

Report as

Apparently they started the whole human race. How their children had sex with eachother without having deformed, mentally disabled children from the incestuous relationships is beyond me...

sorry to leave this confusion hanging out here so long ... i am here to help ... adam and eve were not the first human beings ... humans were created on the sixth day (gen 1:26) ... now after god rested on the seventh day, he realized there were no dupes around to "til the soil" ... so, he made another man and put him in a special garden with a special trap just for adam and eve ... when the trap was sprung and adam and eve were evicted from the garden, their children were free to interbreed with the first, free, people ... for instance, cain went and dwelt in the land of nod, east of eden, where he met the mother of his child enoch

and, one wonders why the church did not want the laity reading the bible for themselves ... it's filled with so much ridiculous blather ... little did they realized how readily so many people would be willing to twist logic and rationality in order to keep the faith.
Report as
According to Jewish tradition Eve was actually Adams third woman. Lilith was first but she would not submit to Adam's will so she was cast out of the garden. His second wife never got a name but was discribed as an earthen woman, and so repulsed Adam that she was cast out too. Then came Eve.

Very brief story.... Adam was the first man put on earth, and he was lonely and god thought he needed a companion so he puts eve in the picture, and the first rule adam tells her is too never eat an apple from the tree. She gives in too temptation and eats an apple so therefore releases fear and sadness into the world. Don't get offended by my story..... I just summarized it so feel free too add too it.

god tells Adam and Eve, don't eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil for in the day you eat of it you shall surely die... the serpent tells them, no you will not, if you eat of the tree you shall become as gods knowing both good and evil... so, Adam and Eve eat of the tree, and do they die? no... in fact, god says, behold they have become as gods knowing both good and evil... so, he sends them from the garden and prevents them from returning and eating of the tree of life...

while i believe this is all rubbish, what can a believer take from it? the serpent told the truth, and god is a lying vindictive jerk

Well if they didnt eat it, we wouldnt be able to die today
Report as
not even sure what to say to that... are we embracing death today?
Report as
They most certainly died, spiritually. That is explained in the Bible. Satan is the liar. God is not mocked. The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Report as
Exactly. Once they ate it, the caused a separation between man and God and so they were vulnerable to death. Jesus fixed the split and now when we die, believers go to heaven when Jesus comes bsck
Report as
so, the author of genesis MEANT to say "for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt spiritually die" instead of "surely die", in genesis 2:17?
Report as
Things written in the bible are not meant literally for example the parables. What the author was tring to say was that once they eat the fruit, they are opening way for sin into their lives. The wages of sin is death so they were surely going to die.
Report as
One more thing. Day does not necessarily mean 24hrs. These were time periods alloted by man lots of years after the fall of man(genesis). God meant to say that in that life of theirs, they would surely die.
Report as
It's quite convenient that we get to pick and choose when god meant what he said and when he meant something else, entirely, isn't it?
Report as
Look at it this way. If they didnt eat the fruit, we wouldnt be here in all this suffering. Worst part is all we work for ends in us dying and not retaining any of it. The good news is Jesus died for us and all who accept him will be redeemed and taken back to paradise (heaven). Its up to you to accept him.
Report as
I look at it this way: there was no fruit. All this suffering is part of life, as is death. The good news is that we can make it better, and pass our knowledge and improvements on to future generations to take up where we left off

Blues Traveller said it best,
"It seems a cycle that we all seem to share
The passing from hand to hand of our pride and despair
Both parent and child cry apathy but everybody cares
And then we vanish in thin air
And only time is there
Time and a legacy"

I'll be nice and tell you. Adam was created by God(trinity) on the sixth day. He was the first man and had dominion over all living creatures. All the creatures around him had mates and he wanted one too. So onetime he fell asleep and God granted his need by taking out one of his ribs and creating a woman named Eve. (uptill today, men have 1 less rib than women) Adam and Eve lived together in the garden of eden and had all they needed. However, God refused them to eat the forbidden fruit from the tree in the center of the Garden of Eden. One day however, Eve was tempted by the devil in form of a cunning serpent to eat the fruit; promising results of great wisdom. Eve had disobeyed God and so had sinned...on behalf of all mankind. After eating the fruit, adam and eve were now aware of their nakedness so they hid from God. God called them out and clothed them out of love but also punished them as follows; adam had to toil for his food, eve had to give birth in pain, and the serpent had to lose its legs and crawl on its belly. They were all kicked out of eden and today all human kind suffers on their behalf. However, because of God's love, he sent his only begotten son Jesus Christ to die for us. All who believe in him shall not perish in hell but have everlasting life. Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sins was God's plan to redeem mankind from the consequences of Adam and Eve's action (eating the forbidden fruit). All who believe in Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior will go to heaven and live in paradise when Jesus comes back for the second time. We can be able to follow the right path by believing in Jesus and listening to the Holy Spirit who helps us do what is right. Whenever we sin, we can repent genuinely and God will forgive us. Hope that helped:)

It's a fictional story in the bible

Helpful (3) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (32)
Report as
How do you know it's fictional?
Report as
Well, nothing is 100% certain, but since there is absolutely ZERO evidence that it's true, I'll take my chances with brentswitzer (I'm assuming.)
Report as
Mooi- everything in the bible is fictional
Report as
Yes it all is fictional
Report as
Pretty bold and uninformed claim to make-the the whole Bible is fictional. Archaeology and history have done nothing but confirm the Bible. as for creation of Adam and Eve, tell me you have evidence for lightning striking a mud puddle and 'creating.?? Lol
Neither case can be proved in a lab. But the bulk of evidence favors a Designer.
Report as
The bulk of evidence does NOT favor a designer because NO evidence favors a designer.
Report as
Excuse me but it actually does. Anthropic principle, Big Bang, microbiological machines at the cell level. Throw in the various explanations for the existence of morals and ethics and the evidence favors God, not Darwinism. Add the historical person of Jesus Christ, His life, death and resurrection...evidence that legal minds have said would stand up in court. It goes on and on.
Plenty of good resources to check out for yourself. Public education has only given us one side. Let's be thorough.
Report as
I'm sorry, where is the evidence that the man called Jesus was resurrected? Oh you say it was simply written down in a book thousands of years old? That hardly seems like evidence to me.
Report as
Investigative reporter Lee Strobel documented very well In book 'The Case for Christ'. It was so compelling he turned from atheism to becoming an ardent follower of Jesus Christ. Most Christians are anemic because they don't know that the Christian faith is rooted in history. I would never advise anyone to have faith in faith.
Report as
So one man who turns based on his own investigations is also evidence? I think not
Report as
I guesss thats why the existence of Jesus was recorded by the romans who were not by any means fictional. Open your eyes people!!!!
Report as
Richest /// i have read "the case for christ" as was not impressed at all ... i recommend "the god delusion" by richard dawkins

wittle /// the only roman sources (and, only three of them: Pliny the Younger writing in c.112, Tacitus writing in c.116, and Suetonius writing in c.121) were written after the fact and never actually refer to jesus, only to christians who referred to themselves as "followers of christus" ... my eyes are wide open, thanks
Report as
can't believe can't edit *grumble* ... richest /// should read "and was not"
Report as
wittle /// and, even if these romans meant by christus, an historical figure also known as jesus (which is not certain), they certainly never documented his alleged resurrection.
Report as
Wittle, I never denied the existence of a man named Jesus. But there is no proof that he was the son of god and resurrected from the dead.
Report as
Ok. The romans actually recorded Jesus' crucifixion and everything. They had THEIR own soldiers - who were very loyal and committed to their duty - to guard the tomb. However, when Jesus ressurected, the Romans had no explanation to the body's disappearance and decided to say it had been stolen....which is clearly a lie because the romans in all of Judea were the superiors and to steal from them, one had to be Asterix and Obelix.
Report as
let's post a link with this amazing confirmation by the romans
Report as
and, sorry it took me so long to get around to this, richest, but your ligntning hitting the mud puddle straw man is simply ludicrous... nobody is suggesting that a single mud puddle hit by a single bolt of lightning began life... but the world-famous Miller-Urey experiment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller_urey) did prove that nucleic acids, the raw building blocks of life, are created when the most likely early atmospheric constituents are electrically charged ... "[can't] be proven in a lab...": please ... do you just make this stuff up?
Report as
Aye americanempire, read this page; http://www.salvationtruth.com/resurrection.php
Report as
yeah, that's just quotes from the bible ... no actual roman sources
Report as
I didnt cite any roman sources. I cited events. Actual roman leaders like pontius pilate are mentioned in the bible quotes = actual truth
Report as
lots of fiction mentions actual historical people ... what you should have said was not, "The romans actually recorded Jesus' crucifixion and everything." But rather, "The early christians asserted Jesus' crucifixion and everything and, in order to make it seem believable, made reference to other known historical figures."
Report as
Wow. Ok, look up Pontius Pilate on wikipedia or google
Report as
thank you, wittlewazor ... an excellent example of just what i was talking about ... pontius pilate, who seems to have been a real prelate of the roman empire is referenced in the gospels, and only in the gospels, as the judge at jesus' trial ... it's scary what you take to be "proof" ... you probably think that because the "national treasure" movies reference actual historical americans, that it must be true too
Report as
It's a true story OK. end of story!!!
Report as
once again, bare assertion of a fantastical tale without any evidence is not the end of the story ... that was sad, pepperplant; not even an argument

also, to go back just a bit, wittle ... you say that you "didn't cite any roman sources." but, this clearly contradicts your statement 5 comments earlier which claims "the romans actually recorded jesus' crucifixion and and everything." where is this so-called roman documentation?
Report as
I don't even know what u r talking about!
Report as
imagine my surprise ... where exactly did you get lost?
Report as
Dude, you're clearly an adult so i'll leave the choice up to you :D
Report as
The romans didn't guard the tomb what would be the point, they carried out his sentence from a Jewish court, then when he died his body was given to his family. Where is this roman record of what they did or who he was? Btw great choice wittle fantasy or fact, it makes sense your avatar is a childhood icon.
Report as
Btw wittle Eve was wife number 3 for Adam, according to Jewish tradition which is where you get your fantasy story from in the first place.
Report as

The story of Adam and Eve was stolen from the Mesopotamian creation myth( that's kinda funny how when a religion is no longer worshiped it becomes mythology). A lot of what is in the bible was stolen from other religions, one of the biggest misconceptions about the bible is people actually think it was written as it happened. Have you actually read the bible it is the greatest work of fiction in existence.
