Why are we today still drawn to tragedies, the way the ancient Greeks were?

It adds excitement to our lives without cost. We don't have to die in a nasty car crash, we can just see it on the tele.

An allied thought - there's a German word - Schadenfreude - it means taking pleasure in the misfortunes of others...

i guess it is who we are if you look back you realize it is much easer to remember the negative then it is the positive. so i guess we are just nearly drawn to the tragedy the same way we remember the negative better.
