How to make your email and social networking sites hacker proof?

I've gotten hacked on Twitter and in my email both multiple times. how can I stop hackers from gaining control of my accounts?

Use long passwords with numbers letters and other signs ie /("#<+. The password should be at least 16 digits long. Hope this helps.

alphanumeric passwords more then 12 words ,adjust privacy settings ,using https (http is not safe anymore) replace http in address bar with https if https is not written there and don't add strangers
