Why do women scream, when giving birth?

I'm just really curious (since we're talking about this in science). Do they scream because it hurts, or they're putting a lot of pressure to get they baby out...?

Not all woman scream giving birth, just as not all births are as painful as others, or that women share the same tolerances. TV and movies really play up the pain and panic of a woman giving birth, but some childbirth, you'll find the mother calm and quiet.

Some women scream or grunt, it isn't always because it hurts though. Sometimes vocalizing helps you push. Kind of like when men gut when lifting something heavy. The noise just comes out.

Definitely the Pain! It's so great you loose your mind and scream for help begging to get some kind of relief, unfortunately, it doesn't help. Relaxing acctually helps to ride through the pain more, tenseing up actually increases the pain intensity.

Both. And really? It feels like you're going to die each and every time. I didn't scream, but had 4 girls naturally and it never gets easier. you literally think you're going to die.
