Can you get an infection in a ear piercing you've had for 10+ years? If so what kind?

I have had my ears pierced for 10+ years and recently just got them pierced again right next to the old piercing. Now, my left, older piercing seems to be infected or something. it is red, crusty and bleeding a little. It feels tough and there is a white part of the skin/ear around the piercing that is white, tough and can be grabbed with tweezers but is still attached and feels just like a piece of dead skin. I've been trying to look it up but haven't had any luck so far. I'm kind of worried as to what this might be!?

This could probably be an injury that you got from your earring. The white, tough part you are seeing could be scar tissue that developed as the flesh was healing. You need to use an antibiotic cream to apply on the affected ear. You may also see your doctor to prescribe you a good treatment.

Scar tissue that has never been there before until just now? Whatever it is, I'm keeping it cleaned and open and will leave it be for a day or to. If it stays the same or worsens, I will see my doctor. Thanks for the tips! I'll try the antibiotic cream!

You can get an infection anywhere. Is your earlobe red? Warm to the touch? It may just be a minor infection that hydrogen peroxide would take care of.
Do you ever clean your earrings?
Just wipe the posts with a little alcohol before you put them in your ears. Should help.

Yes, I clean them. And I've had them for years & years and this is the first anything has happened. I haven't done Anything different except get them pierced again. I can't find anything that fits what it is. It's semi warm to the touch & a little swollen. The piercing itself is tender and there is that piece of skin that is not completely attached anymore. I don't know!!

Keep it clean and give it a couple days. I'd it doesn't look better than get it checked. Love your avatar by the way.... very cool.

It can happen usually from a accident. Such as, something gets got on it, pulled on hard, a dirty earring or sleeping with on it. It usually happens offen when your struck near or on the earlobe hard. You may want to wash and clean your ear with alcohol before bed.

I haven't gotten hit or had an accident with it at all. I'm keeping it cleaned and have taken my earrings out for the time being. If it doesn't get better soon I suppose I will go to the doctor. Thank you for the advice!
