My husband got a huge tattoo of my name on his side from armpit to hip about 7 months ago, and about a 2 weeks ago....

he started itching it badly it's always bothering him it's always getting red for no reason and always itchy all of a sudden . also he got it while he was in AIT with a few buddies of his at a tattoo parlor . the other thing is he's very stubborn about going to the doctors specially not the military docs so I was wondering has this happen to any of you or you know someone or what it could might be? thanks!

You would expect those symptoms for about the first 2 weeks to a month. I have a very large tattoo on my back. After a month it was fine. 7 months is way too long to be having those problems even given the size of his tat. He really needs to get it checked. I can understand about not wanting to ago to VA doctor (why does it take so long for everything?!). How about going to an Urgent Care facility? Something's not right. Btw that was so sweet of him to put your name on him! Please let me know how things turn out.

Thank you :) and tricare won't pay full coverage off post . It's stupid. I don't even like it on post their very cocky and rude docs here (fort hood) . I also put a pix of his tattoo as my profile pic if you or anyone else can see it

He also got the tattoo done without me knowing all he said was he got me a surprise lol I thought it was kinda nuts but I love it it means alot to me . We met when we were 14 and are eachothers first everything he's the sweetest guy ever !

Thanks . He's going in when when we get back from vacation(block leave) to get it looked at he's going to a dermatologist I set it for him .. Lol he was mad a little but he understands I only care about him .. And he can't say he knows this doc cause he doesn't work with them .

Yes mine would swell up a little to where I could actually feel my tattoo on the surface lol I was like wth! And it was itchy also....all I did was put lotion on it and keep it moisturizer and the itching went down but if that doesn't work I'd say see a doc

It's normal. & you should go back to the place where he got the tattoo and they will give you a special lotion thing to put on. Just like on the first day.

Thanks the problem about that is he can't go to the place it's in another state where he went to AIT (college for the army)..

It's weird though cause it comes like almost everyday but not exactly everyday and only for a short time..?

Sometimes ur not always aware of the pain and/or swelling. A doctor cam explain it to you

A&D ointment works great however if that does not work he needs to see a doctor. Military doctors are not going to care they see everything and eventually the military will find out he has the tattoo.

Well no they know he has it he just doesn't like going to the military docs cause he knows them lol he's a medic in the army and he dosent get a specific doc they go to the sick hall they call it and who evers there he sees he works at the sick hall and knows them he's just weird about that lol like when he does get a little sick he trys to fix it himself since he is a doc in training he thinks he can fix anything on his own ..but he can't alot of times it's me that's making him better anyhow lol

Allergic reaction to that specific type of ink used. Not all inks are the same. Try benedryl or other antihistamine. But he really should go to a doctor

I would try putting Aquaphor on it. That's what my husband used and he hasn't had a single problem with it.
