What were the reasons for japans attack on pearl harbor?

Report as

The surprise attack of Pearl Harbor by the Imperial Japanese Navy was intended to neutralize the U.S. Pacific Fleet, and hence protect Japan's advance into Malaya and the Dutch East Indies.

It was an attempt to wipe out the Pacific Fleet in one attack.

But just like Yamamoto predicted, the US was only down for six months, after that we opened up a can of whoop-azz!

It was because the U.S. refused to do the following:
-Stop giving aid to China (because that is who Japan was at war with.
-Stop expanding the U.S.'s military presence in the Pacific
-And most importantly the U.S. must resume full trade with Japan.
My favorite thing is that Japanese presidintish thing said "Im afraid we have just awaken a sleeping monster" or something to those words haha
