Is it ever okay to run the A/C with the windows open?
Where I live the temperature has been hitting a high of about 80 degrees in the day low if 68 at night. I set the thermostat to 76 during times when we are both out of the house. Sometimes at night when it's cool out my roommate will open the windows AND set the A/C to 73, in that order, so as to cool off the house faster. Is it a waste of energy to turn on the A/C with the windows open even though it is cooler outside than in the house? I understand how a thermostat works but it just seems like all that cold air is being generated by the A/C and blown out the window thereby wasting energy.
