How to get my dog used to the pool?

I have a 3 year Doberman who loves swimming at the beach but won't get in the pool at our new house. How can get him used to it?

If the dog doesn't wanna swimin the pool, then why try to force him?? Enjoy the pool for yourself and just spray the dog with the hose :)

My dog despises all forms of water (except puddles) I'm surprised he even drinks from his water dish! In the hole

If you have a pool with a liner I wouldn't advise letting the dog use it. If his nails tear the liner it will cost thousands to replace.

Just swim with him and he will probably get used to it if you do it every day

if you put a lead on pull him gently in stay by his side and even support him he will eventually do it on jis own but he has to trust you be patient and go in first and give gentle pulls to coax him in take your time doing this but he'll go in good luck

Bribe him with treats! You could do some pieces of chicken, my dog loves that! They're do anything for chicken. Just ease him into it. You can put him on a little raft or something. P.S. My dobbie, shepherd, hound mix loves swimming too! He went for the first time last year at camp and loved it so much!

Maybe put him in the pool and swim him around (Despite his protests) and when you take him out pet him and praise him. Give him some treats too so he'll associate doing what you want with being rewarded

Pick him up and drop him in the pool.

Maybe if you start to constantly take him to the pool he will soon get familiar with it.

Dogs who shed will destroy your pump. Woukd recommend keeping the dog in natural bodies of water only.

You can lead a dog to water, but you can't make it swim. (I just made that up.) Seriously, let the dog see you in the water, call him (her), and let things go naturally. Try to get it in the shallow water where it can stand on the bottom without struggle. Our black lab has her own pool (plastic sandbox filled with water), which she enjoys when it is hot. She doesn't like the hose, or splashing water though, so I'd be surprised if your dog will use the diving board.

this is to Brookea
How mean can you be? That would be like taking a 1 or 2 year old and dropping him/her
in the pool and saying "sink or swim". We had a Dalmatian that you couldn't train to go
near the water no matter how hard you tried. If you tried to bath him outside with the
hose and a long lead rope or rope on his collar he would go ballistic and try to eat the
hose. Some dogs either can't swim swim or have been so abused with water that they are are that scared of the water.

I wouldn't force your dog if he doesn't seem to be interested.
