I agree with Former Glory. We do have the tendencies to be selfish. It is a part of our sin nature. When we get to the end of ourselves and we have no where else to run and hide then we call on the God who loves us most.
Why is it we are only thankful for rain when we have need of it? Man by nature takes for granted common blessings and ignores the daily bread for which we are told to render thanks. Yet it is precisely our thanklessness that causes us to routinely ignore the God we love, until our extremity presses us to His bosom.
