Avoid milk products as they thicken the mucus. Don't get overheated. Sit up as much as you can to sleep. Get someone to beat on your back with cupped hands where your lungs are as it will help loosen the mucus. Take a warm steamy bath.
If the infection is bacterial, antibiotics will zap it. If it's viral, antibiotics will do not good and you'll just have to suffer through it. Depending on symptoms, blow your nose and/or take decongestants; suck on lemon or cough drops and/or gargle with warm salt water to soothe your throat; get as much extra rest as you can; drink lots of fluids like tea, water, non-citrus juices. (Citrus juices can irritate a sore throat.) If it's fungal, you really need to see a doctor; fungal infections are difficult to treat and require long-term medication.
