Your car shuts off or down while driving most likely, because of a faulty fuel injector pump or it is simply losing the spark, the fuel or the compression power. You will have to spray some carb cleaner or starter fluid in your injector pump to remove the grime, but if this does not help, then visit a mechanic for professional advice and fixing of the problem.

If it is a newer car with computerized electronic fuel injection, something may be amiss with gasoline delivery to the cylinders. Ditto if is an older model that still relies on carbureation; fuel pump problems perhaps? That is my S.W.A.G.---Scientific Wild-Ass Guess.

Take your car to a reputable mechanic and tell him pretty much exactly what I told you. I would also wait to see what other responses you get to this question, there could be another possibility that another reader will come up with. Just out of curiousity just what is the year, make and model of your vehicle?
