Why doesnt my sony vaio computer recognize my SD card from my camera

the card works fine with the camera but when plugged into either desk top or laptop (windows XP, and Windows 7) the computers dont recognize the card. no messages appear, just asks to plug a card into the drive.

Is the camera software installed on your computer already? Sometimes it may say that it needs to install a driver. If it isn't appearing at all then you could try using the USB cable to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer. Your SD card slot may not be working.

You probably have a high-speed SD card. Some old computers will not read high speed cards.

The same thing is happening with mine. The SD card is one I've used for a long time, and is still good. I have it in a Kodak Photosmart 4 gigabyte digital camera, and is only 580megs. I have a brand new Sony Vaio running Windows 7 64 bit. It won't read my SD card from either the camera, nor will it read the SD card from my new Sony Camcorder. However, it will read the card if the cam is plugged into the usb port.
