The pictures used to represent Jesus are based off of contemporary cultural norms. I wouldn't call them "fake," though they are not an accurate representation. It's like using actors in films that depict historical events. The film isn't "fake," but it's not completely accurate. Nothing is ever completely accurate.
i think it is pure imagination i have heard of this little girl who had visions of heaven and painted a portrait of jesus. it was said to be legit by a four year old who went to heaven during surgery(the book heaven is for real). http://www.artakiane.com/ (the protrait)
I believe very strongly that no one is old enough to describe what he looked like. And yes all the paintings are a man's imagination, it's just the truth.==============2 Corinthians 5:16 Kjv===============Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we [him] no more.
Well, saying that they are fake is kind of like saying the images were from the imagination of the painter, but yes they were "fake and imagined". No one made any paintings of Jesus while he was alive, because that was usually reserved for the rich. Because no images of him existed, the early church wanted to spread the gospel, but many people couldn't read then, so they made paintings and statues. The artists didn't have anything to work with, so they used images of the native people, which is why you see Jesus with images of different ethnic groups.
Most of the images we have of Jesus today are probably not accurate. Jesus was a Jew, so He likely had dark skin, dark eyes, and dark hair. This is a far cry from the blond-haired, blue-eyed, fair-skinned Jesus in many modern pictures. One thing is clear: if it were important for us to know what He really did look like, Matthew, Peter and John, who spent three years with Him, would certainly be able to give us an accurate description, as would His own brothers, James and Jude. Yet, these New Testament writers offer no details about His physical attributes .http://www.gotquestions.org/Jesus-look-like.html
No one who saw Jesus is alive and they didnt make paintings then, esp not of heretical religious zealots (how he was seen by those who didnt folliw him). Of course all depictions of him are fake and pure imagination. No one knows what he really looked like and the bible doesnt say. He was a middle eastern jew yet pictures show him as a caucasian man. some even give him blue eyes. Silly. He was almost certainly dark haired, dark eyed with light brown skin.
