How do you get your opponent to go back without fouling in basketball for offense?

without fouling, it's one on one so I can't pass. My back is facing him and I wanna try pushing him back by going backwards making contact, is that considered a foul?

In my opinion, the best thing to do is to create a dummy to look like you want to pull a certain move making him react and move but instead using another move. Pushing him backwards will be considered a foul and there are other ways of tackling the situation.
