if your doctor gave you an oral rinse-USE it. depending on the treatment you received eat regularly - soft foods so you won't irritate your mouth. use good oral hygiene after every meal. try not to skip meals - you need to eat to heal. use a soft toothbrush. you can rinse with salt water or put a little baking soda in water to rinse your mouth. if it hurts to eat tell your doctor. there are oral rinses that will help with the pain. tell your doctor of any changes you may notice in your mouth.

The use of pain relievers and other techniques like massage or relaxation are necessary as part of the post-surgery management of squamous cell oral carcinoma because the mouth becomes sore. The doctor may also prescribe the use of retinoiddrugs to reduce the risk of a second head and neck cancer.
