If you buy an air plane ticket does it cover there and back

like if you buy a 400$ plane ticket does it cover their and back or do you have to buy another 400$ ticket to come back

No unless it's a round trip I would suggest getting a southwest credit card they give you 1 or 2 free round trip flights when you sign up and when you use the card you can get points for another free flight

When you buy your ticket you specify round trip or one way ticket
