Why is my snake so bad at eating mice? (read more)
my snake is a 20 in mexican rosy boa and is about 1 year and 3 months old. i feed him 2 baby mice at a time because 1 mouse is not enough for him. he will completely miss the mouse when he is looking for it and target me. he eats in a plastic container where i can watch him eat. he will have his head raised to look for the mouse because he can smell it but the mouse may be right under his head and he doesn't even know where it is. the mouse may be laying on the snake but the snake still can't find it and i have to let him target my finger on the other side of the container plastic and guide him to the mouse and he will finally strike. the other thing is that once he strikes the mouse HE WILL LET GO OF HIM AND START LOOKING FOR HIM AGAIN!!!! sometime he does not know how to kill it and will sometimes swallow it while it is still squirming and squeaking. i am concerned because once he is big enough for mice is big enough to run away from the snake. (hang on, my snake just ate the first mouse and now i have to give him the second one because he is looking around for another one) he never refuses mice but will always take a long time to eat it. what should i do?
