What cars are best for a low income college student?

I just bought two 98' plymouth grand voyagers for $400 to frankenstien them to make one and sell it. After that ill be able to spend a couple thousand ($5000 most) to get a car. being a 24 year old male college student i dont want to be driving around in a van. obviously MPG is an issue, but i really would like something fun, fast, clean, etc... but over everything else i need reliability. I've been really thinking about a forgetting the need for speed and just throw a bunch of subs in a blazer but I'me not sure yet. Any suggestions?

Some best cars for a low income college student would be Honda Civic 4 door, Chevy Impala and Mini Cooper Supercharged. Others include pre-owned Mazda or Honda or even Toyota. Read more at http://businessmajors.about.com/od/studentresources/tp/topcars.htm.
