What is a tree hugger?

I saw it as a question on Facebook but I dont know what it means

A tree higher climbs a tree that is imminent of being chopped down. Usually it's because the gov't wants a highway through that area or for commercial purposes. They want to chop down trees that are 300 years old fir the sake of development. The tree bugger stays in the tree to prevent it from happening. Go tree huggers!

A tree hugger is a hippie! A person who climbs a tree and ties themselves to it is probably a hippie! Lol

It is another word for a hippie or environmentalist.

There is nothing wrong with being a conservationist and being responsible but a tree hugger takes it to a ridiculous level and has an extreme Liberal agenda!

A tree hugger a stereotype for people who are in-touch with nature and/or people who love the the environment, tree huggers are also seen as people who "go green" or even "hippies"

one who hugs trees. they go round and hug trees. it some weird stuff. they should go round plantin new ones if they love them so much.
PS. i love trees. just dont go round huggin them. :)
