What can you give a chihuahua that has the "Itchy Scratchy" from summer allergies?

Benadryl an equal to maybe Benadryl for 18 lb., 6 yr male that's been fixed. He gets these allergies every year. He is like a junkie just can't live without scratching. He also resorts to chewing. We can't stop him. Please help this poor guy.

I know that Benadryl helps, but I don't know what the dosage would be for a little one! I would call your vet, they also have meds that they can give the pup for allergies

You need to get a test to find out what is causing the itching first. You should switch to use allergy free shampoo and the allergy free conditioner. While the allergy is slowly healing, you can put vitamin E oil on the skin. In two weeks of using the shampoo and the vitamin E oil, your Chihuahua will be okay. Contact a vet for more assistance.

I tried this on my old dog once who had such itchy skin it'd gone red!

Put some oatmeal in a bowl, cover it with water and microwave it for a minute or so. Let it cool then take it - and your dog - to the shower. Dose him in water first - gently - then apply the paste-like mixture all over the irritated skin. Leave it for 5 minutes and rinse thoroughly with very lukewarm water. Do not shampoo. It worked instantly. :)

He's scratching for a reason. I have four tee cups and we had our male Giggles doing the same. We took him to the vet and they prescribed an inexpensive oil for his skin. Cured.
